Ronnie Fuller Bashing...

Having read some of the comments (holden) on Ronnie, I feel compelled to comment.

My views on Fuller are well documented ( I was never really a fan), but...

1. As a player he was (IMHO) above average - over 200 games says that

2. As a Junior Coach & an 'identifier' of young football talent - OUTSTANDING
(AFL Clubs could do alot worse than employ R. Fuller as a talent scout)

3. As a Senior Coach - win / loss % very good

Considering the DOMINANCE of a particular Northern Suburbs Football Club over the past decade, WWTFC record is pretty good.
With the exception of the '04 DISASTER, The Eags have had a good run under Fuller.

4. I felt he should've kept his word & left @ the end of 2006 - on a high & some players were hoping he was going to go.

Overall, Ron Fuller is CLEARLY the BEST Coach WWTFC has had & I would suggest that he is the best coach that any WFC or WTFC supporters have seen in the last 1/2 a Century. I wish him well & thank him for his commitment to OUR club over the past 8 seasons.

Only 1 flag is a little disappointing but it's better than 6 other clubs have managed to achieve this Millenium.

The Fuller bashing from within the Eagles has always perplexed me, though of course I'm not privy to the inside information.
But I would wager that outside Oval Ave, he would be pretty much be universally respected by supporters of every SANFL club. His record and the Eagles' high standard over the past decade or so are nothing to take for granted that's for sure.

Agree. I think all supporters apart from some of the Eagles fans on here are amazed at the constant criticism of him. Nobody can work miracles, but that's what some expect. His record is excellent and one 95% of coaches would happily accept.

It is quite easy to be "nasty" behind a nickname.
Give credit where it is due and Ron Fuller certainly deserves credit for most of his 9 years as coach.
Boy if we hadn't kept running into pacemaker Centrals all the time we could have some record of achievement.
Only one (the best) team can win the title each year. Sturt is the only other team to be successful in the last 10 years.
So get over the whining. Its on to a new era with Michael Godden. The knives had better not come out after a couple of games under him next year. Not much of a supporter snipes at a club so often.

I am certainly amazed at the criticism ... maybe some Eagles supporters are being too optimistic about where their team should realistically be at the moment. No harm in wanting to get better but from what I have read in the past few months, a few of you solely blame Ron for whatever you think is wrong with the club, which is very naive because one man doesn't make a club. Don't try to quote alleged conversations with players who aren't happy, that happens at every club.

Yes I think Micky Godden is a great pick up, but he can't work miracles and perhaps you will appreciate that sometime in the next couple of years.

I asked this question in another thread. Where do you think the Eagles should have finished this year and where do you expect to finish next year?

I asked this question in another thread. Where do you think the Eagles should have finished this year and where do you expect to finish next year?

Thinking about the players who have gone and who have stayed around the club over the last few years, I don't think there are really too many would have been classed as "must-keeps" or have done particularly well at other clubs. O'Hara would be the exception. Toia, Peel, Ellis, Schwarze (although he could still prove me wrong) haven't been great losses. So you're right Dedja, the club had been able to keep those who it wanted to - Cicca, Colville, Powell, Treeby, McKenzie, Lindsay, Passador. I reckon every other club would jump on any of those if they had the chance.

I thought 4th or 5th would have been a par finish last year, so to finish out of the finals had me a bit worried about another year like that. Perhaps it was because Port and, in particular, Norwood fell away we rose back up the ladder, but this year I think to finish where did we went forward as a club because we played lots of young players and didn't get a great deal out of Treeby, Powell or Passador because of injury. As MickyJ pointed out a while ago, our reliance on Salter and Broadbent is a big worry.

FWIW I expect to be back in the top 3 by 2011.

I got to know Ron a bit years ago when he was a player. He was a friend of my best mate.
He has continued to be a conscientious ornament of the game, both as a player and coach.
Outside of football he's also a good bloke. Saw his daughter play a mean game of netball at
ETSA park too. Anyone who speaks ill of Ron Fuller cannot and should not be taken seriously.

My only criticisms of Ron stem from last year IMHO he started to think about retiring then .And to be honest some of his selections have been perplexing this year.
Pre 2008 I defended Ron loudly and openly at more than 1 game to Eagles fans who didnt like him.
One can not take anything away from his coaching record only missing the five once in his tenure.
And its a credit to the club that they handled Rons retiring pre the end of the year in a professional way.

But like everyone else I get rather excited where"my Eagles" are concerned
I'm sure there's a post count by a certain bays fan on how many times I post after "my eagles" have won or lost

True, but I think might be another similar year, esp with new coach and gameplan, without Salter and Broadbent much and getting some more experience for the younger players. Please show me this next year to prove how bad a judge I am

South clearly do see something in Ron Fuller, having offered him the Director of Coaching position at the club, I am fairly certain the offer would not have been made if he was not highly regarded!
