Back to Saturday.
A big day at McLaren Footy Club on Saturday.We had a couple of hours with Gordon Tonkin on the Tuesday before to finalise all the little things that needed to be done and he was expecting a crowd of about 3,000.
1....In excess of FIVE THOUSAND turned up!!! (early birds and latecomers missed being counted)
2....Four great games with unbelievable margins.
3....Behaviour from the crowd, players and supporters was fantastic.
4....Atmosphere...just terrific.
5...The Presidents afternoon tea in the pavillion was attended by every club in the GSFL
6...Our Committee and volunteers are all exhausted
7...There are no slabs of Jim Beam left in McLaren Vale...The pub, BWS and the Footy club all sold out.
8....Was this the biggest crowd ever at a GSFL Grand Final?
9....The Bute Footy Club can drink!!!!
10.... McLaren Reserves got up.

Would be interested in the feedback from you all in regards to the dividing up of the ground for the 6 clubs playing. First time it has been done and it looked as if was supported well. Clubs were asked which area they wanted by the way

My first season in the G.S.F.L after being in Southern for awhile.Grand final day at Mclarens was awesome,packed to the hilt.Thought the designated areas for each club was a great idea and the atmosphere was sensational.All games were tight and not one of them was over till the last minute or two.Well done to the Pongy senior colts on their premiership,that was a awesome game to watch.Willunga A grade just keep finding ways to win,a great game of footy and Strath played real well and if they had got up would have thoroughly deserved it.The highlight for me and i maybe a little biased was the Mclaren B grade getting up in a tight game by 7 points.Strath boys played a great game and had their chances to win but probably the differance was that the Eagles made the most of their opportunities when.Cant comment on the Colts didnt get to see it but I think Willunga up by 1 point.

Super day at McLaren's. Hats off to all involved - If only they could host it every year, designated areas were a great idea, enhanced the atmosphere and all the games went down to the wire, although i think only 1-2% of the crowd knew there was actually a footy game going on, the rest were just soaking up the sunshine and carnival atmosphere.

What a day of footy! So close in every grade. If Pongy had a pub it would be pumping!! I was so happy for those lads and it was so good to see the amount of support they had. Strath were gallant in defeat, but couldnt edge home but kept us on the edge til the end. BJ Ernest unsighted all day (until he kicked the sealer)

I am going to Stratco to purchase rope and my next visit is the bridge... Losing grand finals is devastating but even more so when you team plays well below par.. Leith Renney will be getting a package in the post this week from me...coach of the year award beacuse the premiership coach is the man that deserves the accolade.

No pub L.F. but one wool shed a band a B.B.Q. and lots of grog. Some terribly unlucky teams saturday but I guess when your time in the sun comes you make the most of it. So much raw emotion when the final siren sounded, so many tears so much excitement, so many years of being thrashed and struggling for numbers. To mclarens football club well done a truely great day

Missed saturday due to work & C.B.F. Bad luck LF, dont head down to the bridge mate, great year by you & your boys. Pongy lads in a thriller, thats massive for the club & Sarge. Well done to Mclarens in the 2's.
BJ, Jingles, Micky, Grape Ape, huge effort by you guys. 6 in a row . I have heard that the beer van is not in the best condition at the moment, getting back to nature Micky??

You were the stand out coach of the year but there was one coach who closed in fast on the finish line the new mayor of Myponga and Sellicks SARGE SMITH. On the finish line L.F. Short half head Damien Smith.

Sarge did a bloody good job and it brings up the argument that I think gets asked every year (even in the AFL) about picking these types of awards prior to the season ending. Smith won a flag (which is what we are playing for), the first ever for Myponga in colts footy probably puts him at the head of the bunch.

Worked great yetti, added to the colour and atmosphere, if we being myponga-sellicks get a team in the grand final again we may need a few more metres . 10 deep in our area.

I would have thought that Willunga should have worn White Shorts.

Heard a lot of people in the crowd asking why the big scoreboard at the northern end wasn't being used saturday?

The 'new' scoreboard (the one used on Saturday) has been operational for the past two seasons.
So it wasn't a new thing Animus, just perhaps some people hadn't seen it used before, but yes, I did hear a similar comment

Not 100% sure why we changed to the new scoreboard but I'm sure The Yetti will be able to fill you/us in

The good thing for the scoreboard attendant is that this one is undercover - although that didn't come in to play on last Saturday, but it has on previous Saturdays

they changed the score board for a couple of reasons
it was too close to the traffic going past and with juniors doing the scoreboard most weeks it was dangerous, and the second was the platform is also dangerous with the fact it has no barriers etc to stop people falling off, i think maybe even one of the young people who were doing the scoreboard a couple of years ago fell and hurt themselves hence why it was changed

I did notice the old Green and Gold section was chock a block. From where I was working in the bar The Pongy crowd stood out and were very vocal. Compass spilled into the Bar area and into Goolwas area ( after some of the 14's supporters had left)
