Yes was a good standard of football out there today at Woodville Oval and Port always seemed to have the game in control even though West did threaten a few times.

A West player I noticed in particular was a solidly built left footer who could kick the ball 60 and was as hard as nails. Looks to be a player in the making.
Port had numerous good players and had several quality indigienous players

That player is probably Danny Sukkel, who played a league game last year.

The other left-footer, who was West's best, I thought, was Taite Silverlock.

Port had a lot of quick players and deserved their win, although I can understand Thiele's frustration.

The umpiring was embarrassing. Some of the free kicks were softer than a line-ball basketball foul and the umpires seemed to think they had to adjudicate every contest, stopping any flow in the game.

At least they didn't make the same mistake as at Prospect earlier in the year when the Panther's song was played ... except the Panthers weren't playing that day.

Only saw the last qtr of the Bays v Sturt game which the Bays came from 7 points down to win by a goal and it appeared if the umpiring was just as poor in this game. Very soft and the umpires loved getting involved. I guess over the two games it sounds as if the umpires were consistently soft.

I saw both games, and the umpiring was far worse in the Port v West game. West were on the end of some very ordinary decisions.
Silverlock looked dangerous all day. Jamie Solly was fantastic for Port kicked 5 goals and had 27 touches.

Nick Cane carved up for Glenelg, had 30 odd touches and used the ball pretty well. Glenelg did well to win after being 4-5 goals down at one stage. Trembath and Giddings were dangerous in the second half.
O'Malley and Hansen were Sturts best players.

the umps over officiated both games
let the boys play and pick out the fairdinkum free's
nearly 60 free's in the second semi
and the ruckmen didn't dare touch each other by the end of the game
Finals, and the standard of footy goes up and the umpiring goes down!!
