From the Messenger
CENTRAL District is through to its 10th consecutive SANFL Grand Final after a miraculous win over Glenelg today.

The Dogs were 26 points down mid-way through the third term but stormed home with five goals to one in the last quarter to steal victory, 12.9 (81) to 11.13 (79).

They had 20 more tackles, 13 more clearances and were more polished in front of goal.

Lee Spurr was fantastic all day in a best-on-ground performance, Eddie Sansbury was damaging in front of goal while veteran Matthew Slade’s work around the stoppages was tremendous.

Coach Roy Laird said his side was ``second to the ball’’ in the first half but turned things around when it mattered.

``We needed to take a risk and had a couple of things go our way in the last quarter it’s a credit to them to hang in there,’’ Laird said.

It is a perfect scenario for the Dogs that now have two weeks to prepare for the Grand Final. And that means two weeks rest for injured stars Ian Callinan and Andrew Hayes who missed today’s win.

Glenelg coach Mark Mickan said his side that’s ranked ninth in the competition for accuracy) was made to pay for wasted shots on goal.

``I think it caught up with us today,’’ he said.

``Our first half acceptable, second half unacceptable. It’s not the only thing ...execution and decision making, there’s a whole lot of stuff you can attribute.’’

Glenelg will now play Sturt in the preliminary final.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

It would be even funnier if you won next week and then got rolled by the Dogs...

IMO it will now be more of a mental battle for the Bays. Looking at some of their players afterwards, I got the feeling they don't know what else they have to do to win. Apart from a couple of shots at goal (and McConnell), it is hard to see how or where they could have played much better. Kirkby and Murphy really impressed today.

Sorry, I don't buy that. There is definitely much room for improvement.

Any player would be greatly disappointed after a loss like that so I wouldn't read too much into it.

Sure, they didn't play the "perfect" game but that discounts the fact they are up against a quality team. I'm sure there would be plenty of areas Ror Laird reckons the Dogs can improve on too.
But from a neutral perspective it was a great game of footy that I thought the Bays had slightly the better of.
I thought the Bays were strong around the packs and contested balls, ran with pace, generally kept their composure under pressure, and had some winning forwards both tall and small.

Ditto for the Bays or Blues.

Seriously? I don't think so. I think if Glenelg go out this week, that's a disaster for them. If they win and then go on to lose the grannie against the Dogs, equally that's a disaster. For Sturt, if we go out this week, I personally will feel we've finished where I think we deserve to finish, because in the end I think the Tigers are much better than us and the Dogs are slightly better than us. If we win and make the grannie, I think we've over achieved in September since Chambo has been out and how the two finals for us have gone. But that's just me. I'm sure there'll be other Sturt fans who have much higher hopes and expectations than moi, but that's just how I feel, I'll be content somewhat if we go out next week, but obviously a win is what I want.

That's not what Sturt supporters were saying after the game at Unley! (This year and last)

I didn't realise Glenelg had won 14 in a row up until today, with that in mind it may be a blessing in disguise for the Bays now they've tasted defeat again it should make them hungrier & more determined.

Just put the question out there. Not sure why you would post a troll response?

I will bite though. Yep, North's next game is 6 months away. The majority of intelligent Rooster supporters thought we were as good as where we finished the year.

All jokes aside it was a great* day of footy today with 2 very competitive and hard fought games ... SANFL footy is in great shape.

Disappointing crowd again today (I think I heard around 15,000) which didn't do the 4 teams out there justice.

NB *

Yes, disappointed with the result but no-one can argue the 2nd-semi wasn't a great game to watch.

Phark.

We don't have a cat so I had nothing to kick when I got home. Took out my frustration on the ironing pile instead. Two hours and a closetful of pressed shirts later I'm in the good books with the missus; I guess that's something.

Fairly even first term, then I thought the Bays got well on top. Central spent the next 2 terms chasing guernseys and playing with ill discipline. Was not comfortable at 3/4 time, would have preferred to have been another 2 or 3 up, but was confident that the Tigers would go on with the job.

Then Central put together a quarter of perfect football. Winning contests, hitting targets, sticking to the game and not doing silly things. Ran circles right round the Bays. One bloody quarter of intense hard-at-it footy and the Bays were blown right out of the water.

Congats to thee and thine, doggy fans. Your team is the exemplar, the paragon of finals football. I'm hurting now, but I'm not dirty with your mob; Central ultimately outplayed Glenelg and deserves its tenth - tenth - straight GF berth.

I'll add this: if Glenelg does recover and manages to wrest the TS Hill cup from you lot, nobody could ever accuse it of being a soft flag. To win a GF against a team of Central's calibre would add so much more sparkle to the trophy.

You dogs are good. Damn good.

Not quite ... were 3-2 then finished the minor round at 17-2-1, but hey, I'm being pedantic. ;)

I hope you're right though!

I now count 3 SAFooty regular Bays supporters telling us how great Centrals are

Don't let this turn into Port v Glenelg from the 70s and 80s. You have been minor premiers 2 years running!!

Don't accept it so easily

Due respect to Dutchy and dedja who are responding as they should .... You'll need some more mongrel and less  for them to beat them in 2 weeks time.
