From an outsider looking in, it appeared as though you guys had it won in April, the weight of expectation was huge and the season seemed like a formality. A lot of people don't like seeing teams go from being weak to strong in no time, you were always going to cop criticism if you didn't win the flag.
I wasn't surprised on Saturday when I heard, I was getting regular updates of the score, I felt for Carey though, having played cricket and football against him for 20+ years and playing in a side that defeated his in a GF 10 years ago by 1 point IIRC, I know how much time and effort he puts in to be as professional as he can be.
This could be a blessing in disguise for the BLFC, a premiership may have seen a few retirements, some players leave for various reasons, I've seen it before when there's an instant premiership. Now there is some unfinished business for the club and the team will have to rally together and look to recruit a few more, div. 5 will be tougher and they will have to work hard for every win.
Bad Luck on the day fella's, surely you can take the positives out of it though, you were the best team in the division over the season, you have turned the club around completely from relegation to div 7 to promotion to div 5, I look forward to seeing you next season and resuming the rivalry between two clubs that spans back 30 years.

Well done Groover, I bet 6 months ago you wouldn't have thought you'd be in the team of the year as a defender, good coaching. You will become a far more potent forward when you return to the goalfront after spending time in the back half.

Interesting team. Well done Groover, definitely didn't pick you being on the HB flank at the start of the year. I think they may have made a typo with Luke instead of Beau Patterson being named on the bench. Good to see the old man of the league, Nath Scott, making an appearance in the BP.

The team of the year is never going to be agreed of.

Pity they made a mistake with putting Luke Paterson in there instead of Beau. I'd expect that from the SAAFL News!

Not sure if I entirely agree with the BL selections... think Brett Aldridge, Ryan McKee, and Michael Hayes all have reason to think they are unlucky.

Coach of the year is obviously the premiership coach? Cause he coached best on 1 day!?? Maybe the team of the year should be those who were best in the grand final!

Carey Payne is coach of the year.

Browny, I think you are right with Brett Aldrige, had a quite game in the GF but dominated on the wing throughout the year. Very stiff to miss out!!! 50/50 with Haysey and Ryno, the other guys in the TOTY would have been very unlucky to miss out. Can't fit them all in there. Will see in a month and a half how the Tigers rate their players. Would be very surprised if one of Brett Aldridge or RV doesnt win the Best and fairest.

Definitely think Aldridge should have been named on the wing rather than Sibbick.
And Pauly Wootton not being named on the ball is laughable.

As for the coach- taking nothing away from Carey, but with the team and the experience within that team, anyone should have been able to coach you to a GF.

Defenately an interesting move earlier in the year, but a good one at that. Enjoyed playing in the back half, but it will be nice to move back to the forward lines at some stage :D

It makes sense that coach of the year is the Premiership coach (especialy coming from 4th to win the flag). As a player not sure how anyone would know what the 9 other coaches are like if you only hear 1 all season.

Conspiracy, you are going to have to present Luke with a medal and a trip to Ireland aswell now.

maybe the selectors didnt go for flashy players.. you guys are right we did underachieve so there for Heccies coach earned it.. very hard to win it from fourth spot..

On that i would have Wootton in guts and Boothey back at half back and i feel sorry for the two young lads from heccies who tore us up on Saturday for not getting in.. i think its Junior and Leak or Peak... on that though they put me in so i wont say there wrong too much lol..
