Hopefully you'll be thanking us next week when you have another crack at the Doggies in the Prelim.
Just make sure you finish the job this time.

GAME DIARY: Central v Sturt
THE GREAT ESCAPE: Central players celebrate a remarkable victory
So did Sturt choke or were they simply powerless to stop the Central machine? Let’s break down the final term to see whether the game was won, or lost.
For Sturt fans this will be like pulling teeth. Dogs fans, grab a drink, sit back and enjoy.
0.00
For a game that’s tied at 6.8 (44) a piece the first three quarters were horribly boring. Central refused to take any risks and played the game at snail’s pace while the Double Blues were unable to build a lead because of costly skill errors. Let’s hope things improve. We’ve got Jason MacKenzie, Paul Thomas, Chris Gowans and Chad O’Sullivan starting in the centre for the Dogs, Jake Bowen, Luke Crane, Brad Vassal and Jade Sheedy for the Double Blues. Bowen and Vassal might appear like interesting choices but Angus Kurtze has been bullied by MacKenzie today and the umpires have turned a blind eye to Bowen’s wrestling tactics. He’s been a little bit more competitive. Vassal has been a standout over the first three quarters, racking up 16 disposals. And the final quarter begins with a..... recalled centre bounce. Talk about an anticlimax.
0.45
After Jason MacKenzie wins the tap, Sturt work the ball forward but Michael Coad can’t out mark Heath Lawry. Central rush a behind. That would’ve been a Double Blues shot at goal in the AFL. Sturt by a point.
1.27
ABC boundary rider Mark Soderstrom says the impression he got from the Sturt huddle was ``I think Sturt feel like they’ve got it’’. Big mistake.
4.52
Nothing’s happened. I just didn’t want to go more than three and a half minutes without making an entry. This is a scrappy battle.
5.38
A clever right foot kick from Charlie Sharples frees up Luke Crane on the outer wing who hits a leading Jack Trengove at half forward with a quality pass. About 60m out, Trengove launches the ball to the goal square. Heath Lawry works Michael Coad under the ball but Jade Sheedy swoops at the back of the pack leaving opponent Ryan Williams trailing about 5m behind to bang through a goal. Sturt by seven points.
6.34
Sturt look up and about. Matt Payne sharks the ball beautifully off the ensuing centre bounce runs to the wing and kicks the ball straight to...... Adam Switala at half back for the Dogs. Switala returns the favour by hitting Angus Kurtze (who has replaced Bowen in ruck) on the chest at centre wing.
7.23
Sturt work the ball forward and Scott McGlone kicks a neat ball inside 50 that Tristan Gum gets both hands to but doesn’t mark.
7.46
Kurtze resumes his battle with MacKenzie at a boundary throw in. He continues his form from earlier in the match and gives away a free kick.
8.17
Another stoppage and another free against Kurtze, this time to Daniel Schell. For one of the first times today a Central player actually moves the ball quickly. Schell’s long kick to a leading Daniel Havelberg goes unmarked but Eddie Sansbury swoops on the crumbs and snaps through a goal from about 40m out straight in front. Classy finish. Gum is left in his wake. Not a good two minutes for Tristan. Sturt by one point.
9.10
Dogs still sticking with Chris Gowans, Thomas, O’Sullivan and MacKenzie in the middle. Sturt have Payne, Cubillo, Gum and Kurtze. A complete change from the start of the quarter.
9.37
Craig Evans runs the ball down the wing almost pleading with some one to lead at him. It’s moment like these you need Chambo (not Minties). Lee Spurr works in to the hole and cleans up.
9.54
Another Sturt kick inside 50, this time by Jace Bode, that fails to find a target. Another wasted opportunity. Charlie Sharples runs straight in to Luke Crane and the two butt heads. Crane comes off worse.
10.20
Last year’s Magarey Medallist finally gets up. Meantime Sansbury is down now after getting caught in a Toby Thurstans-James Plant sandwich. Not exactly the place you want to be.
13.02
McGlone kicks long to half forward where Spurr reads the ball better and takes a superb mark behind Trengove. After having only two touches in quarters two and three, Spurr is starting to have an influence.
13.16
Spurr finds Ryan Williams in the middle who has O’Sullivan in space at half forward. Williams kicks his 400th bad pass (approximate figure) for the game. The ball sails over O’Sullivan’s head and out of bounds on the half forward line.
14.19
Adam Switala kicks to half forward, Kurtze spoils. Schell crumbs the ball, handballs to Havelberg who handballs to Lee Spurr. Spurr runs across 50m but his kick only makes it to the goal square where Toby Thurstans out positions Jon Giles and punches the ball out of bounds.
15.37
After some scrambly play, Matt Jaensch finds the ball on the outer wing, but instead of looking forward where he would have seen Luke Crane in acres of space, he goes the safe option of kicking 30m back to Scott McGlone at half back.
16.02
Jaensch’s pass actually turns out all right for Sturt. McGlone’s long kick is picked up by Ryan Herring who sends a long low kick deep in to the forward line. Switala traces it back but inexplicably fumbles the ball and back heels it to Charlie Sharples who can’t believe his luck.
16.05
Sharples sprints in and kicks a goal. Sturt by seven points.
16.07
Brayden O’Hara cuts short Sharples’ celebration by hitting him with a solid hip-and-shoulder. Theron Philp blows his whistle before Sharples even hits the ground. Charlie is awarded another kick from the goal square. Sturt by 13 points.
17.27
Scott Dutschke is moved in to the middle and wins the ball in front of Jade Sheedy, sending the ball inside 50 with his left foot. Jaensch roves the ball but has no idea what to do with it and is immediately dropped by Leigh Westhoff. BAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!
18.20
The left-footed Westhoff hooks the ball badly and doesn’t get anywhere near the goals. That’s more than 18 minutes gone in the final term and Central has had one scoring shot.
18.32
Livewire Ben Nason makes it two with a right foot snap from the pocket, hitting the near post. Sturt by 12 points.
18.52
Michael Coad kicks long straight down the ground but Leigh Westhoff climbs over Jon Giles and Jake Bowen and punches the ball forward. Chad O’Sullivan gathers and fires a lightening handball to James Gowans, who handballs on to Giles, who has run forward. Bowen doesn’t seem interested in chasing him. A shaky left foot pass from Giles finds Daniel Havelberg in the pocket, who holds a chest mark.
19.12
After being put on his angle by the umpire. Havelberg walks toward Coad on the mark like he’s going to check his run up. No, he’s going to kick the ball around the corner off two steps. Why not? Sturt by six points.
20.12
After the Dogs soccer the ball forward from the centre bounce, Toby Thurstans comes charging off the back line, clears a path for himself and streams forward. Who is leading up? No one. It’s moments like these you need Chambo.
20.25
Thurstans handballs to Jace Bode, who handballs straight back and Thurstans scrappy kick forward to a pack is roved beautifully by Tristan Gum who snaps on his right foot but doesn’t connect well. The ball sails high toward goal where Switala works Trengove off the ball and takes a brilliant mark.
20.48
From the goal line Switala kicks the ball 30m to Williams but gives it too much air and its spoiled by Sharples.
21.00
Sharples wins the ball on the ground and handballs to Trengove who gets a good shepherd from Brad Vassal, runs toward goal and puts through a classy left foot snap. Sturt by 12 points.
22.07
A long kick from Giles out of the centre is guided to the boundary by Coad deep in the Central forward line. Johncock is third man up at the boundary throw in and punches the ball outside 50, but Thomas slaps the ball to Spurr who hits the top of the goal square with a left foot kick. Coad spoils Schell, Sansbury gathers and handballs back, nutmegging Jaensch. James Gowans barely takes possession before Patrick Fittock crashes in to his back. Free kick Central.
23.10
James Gowans’ 11th kick for the game is a goal from about 20m out. Sturt by six points.
25.01
The Dogs work the ball forward from a throw in on the wing. Schell roves O’Sullivan’s long kick and snaps at goal on a sharp angle from 20m out but kicks the ball straight across goal. With several players fighting for possession, the ball is eventually squeezed out to Williams, whose short, centreing pass to Thomas misses the mark. Double Blues clear the ball from defence.
25.59
Boundary throw in on Sturt’s half forward line falls short. Spurr is the only player who wants it, running off his man to take the ball uncontested. How good has he been in this quarter? Nine possessions, most of them crucial. Spurr bombs long to the forward line. Coad spoils to the front of the pack about 40m from goal where Trent Goodrem gathers. Has O’Sullivan all on his own running toward goal but kicks the ball too far and it bounces out of bounds.
26.30
Jade Sheedy clears the ball from the boundary throw in but Kyle Jenner beats Craig Evans to the ball on the wing. Evans falls in to his back and gives away a 50-50 free kick. That one could’ve gone either way. To make matters worse, Evans runs over the mark before the umpire calls play on and gives away 25m.
26.50
Jenner’s short pass to MacKenzie passes through the big man’s finger tips but he gathers the ball on the ground and fires a handball over his head to Chris Gowans who gets tackled around the head by Coad. Dumb free kick. Gowans will kick from just inside 50m on a 45 degree angle.
27.10
Gowans sends through a perfect set shot. That’s pressure kicking. Scores level.
28.03
Josh Cubillo wins the centre clearance but the Dogs’ half back line stands firm and forces the ball out to the centre wing boundary.
28.38
``Soders’’ whisper is there is just under two minutes to go. Meantime, Jake Bowen, doing his best impression of a WWE wrestler, is finally penalised for trying to put MacKenzie in a straight jacket.
28.43
MacKenzie kicks to half-forward where Goodrem roves the ball off the pack, finds space and delivers a beautiful left foot pass to a leading Giles, who marks the ball in front of Thurstans. Again the Dogs look dangerous when moving the ball quickly. Giles only needs a point but he kicks it straight through the middle. Who would’ve thought after spending most of the season in the Reserves, Giles would be playing such an important role. Central by six points.
30.01
MacKenzie thumps the ball forward but the Double Blues gain possession and look a chance to break down the outer wing. But Kyle Jenner puts the perfect tackle on Jaensch, who can’t get a handball free.
30.20
Jaensch is third man up at the bounce and belts the ball forward. Craig Evans runs on to it but is unable to run clear of Jenner who brings him down in the middle of the ground. Two brilliant tackles in a minute for the Port Magpies recruit.
30.40
O’Sullivan, who has played a brilliant final term, wins the ball from the bounce and kicks the ball forward where Thomas gathers as the siren blows. The Dogs have pulled off the most miraculous of victories. Roy Laird will later go on to describe it as his best win outside a grand final. 200th gamer James Gowans addresses the Central players on the ground. ``The Bays will be shitting themselves now. We never give up,’’ he says. Looking at some of the key statistical categories it is hard to believe the game was as close as it was. Tackles: Central 44, Sturt 23. Inside 50m: Central 50, Sturt 34. Clearances: Central: 50, Sturt 35. Free kicks: Central 28, Sturt 19. Hitouts: Central 58, Sturt 40.
So at the end of the day was the game won or lost? On reflection, it appears as though the Double Blues, through an inability to win the ball and a number of silly free kicks, blew it. And now their season is hanging by a thread. Only one side has won the premiership after losing the qualifying final. For the Dogs, who it has to be said kicked some clutch goals in the final minutes, its on to another second semi-final. I don’t need to remind of you of their record in those.

Cool Giles stands and delivers

crucial goal on the weekend. Picture: Morne de Klerk
IT was arguably the defining kick in Jonathan Giles’ career.
After being in and out of the Dogs’ League side this year, and battling to keep his spot on the Power’s AFL list, Giles showed he could deliver under pressure.
At the 29 minute mark of Sunday’s qualifying final, with scores level, Giles marked 35 metres out on a slight angle at AAMI Stadium.
Any score would do.
``I just wanted to get a score, Gowans said `just score’,’’ Giles said.
``And I thought `I hope the wind dies down’.’’
But rather than just aim goalward and hope for a point to put the Dogs in front, Giles went back and coolly slotted it through the middle to steal the game.
``It was a great win, obviously we were down a couple of goals and it was a great win for us as a team, especially heading into next week against Glenelg,’’ Giles said.
``I’m just happy to play my part in the team and as long as the team’s winning, I’m happy.’’
Giles and Jason Mackenzie formed a dominant ruck combination which probably decided the game in the end.
The Bulldogs had 58 hit-outs to Sturt’s 40 in a telling display.
``Buckets (Mackenzie) is really good to have alongside you as a ruckman,’’ Giles said.
``I learnt from him, he’s a great teammate to have and we seem to enjoy rucking together.’’
Bulldogs coach Roy Laird said the goal would boost Giles’ confidence.
``Last week (against Norwood) he dropped a mark late in the game and he was pretty down on himself,’’ Laird said.
``But good players, good characters get over that pretty quick and he did that during the week.
``I thought he was competitive in his ruck work and when he went forward, sides have to respect him because he’s dangerous.’’
Giles played 13 League and seven Reserves games in the home-and-away season, vying with Crows-listed ruckman Jonathon Griffin for a League spot at Elizabeth.
Griffin has missed the past two weeks with a calf injury.
He was expected to play on Sunday but pulled up sore after Wednesday’s training session.

No rubbing wounds mate, just promoting great articles and if I'm being brutally honest, I think the Bays should win by around 4 or 5 goals...
Whether or not I say that on the show tomorrow morning, time will tell
