Congrats to Rhys and James

Sadly, the disgraceful coverage of the count has overshadowed the result. SANFL hang your heads in shame - your coverage tonight was a complete and utter disgrace, best summed up by the SANFL site crashing and the winner being announced on here!

Big congrats to the guys on here for doing their best to keep the site operational and proving the most up to date scores of the count.

I suggest everyone call Cornesy and Rowey tomorrow and air your displeasure on there - that will embarrass the SANFL more than sending e-mails, that can be easily deleted and dismissed.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Rhys Archard and James Ezard tie on 18 votes in the 2009 Magarey Medal

SAfooty: Hi all. Apologies for the server issues - over 200 people refreshing the server at once really put a strain on it.

Outstanding Jimmy Ezard. After being on the Power's list to stacking shelves at Foodland, to become a Magarey Medalist is fantastic and a credit to the young man

poor coverage by the sanfl, what a disgrace to the competition
10:25
SAfooty: I think next year, assuming there's no coverage, we will use this. I didn't realise it was in such a bad state (the coverage)
10:25
[Comment From macca]
Great stuff from Jimmy. Just didnt have the skills or the pace a few years back for AFL, but there may be an opportunity someone might give him a crack given its a shallow draft
10:25
[Comment From Bruno]
Congratulations James and Rhys. Deserved winners. Ezard is a true in and under ball winner, putting his head where others wouldnt put their big toe

SANFL hang your heads in shame your coverage was a disgrace - and for the SANFL site to crash just summed up the SANFL's contempt for the people that still follow the game. Big thank you to the SAFooty team for doing everything they can to provide the most up to date coverage of the count.

I'd have to rate the coverage of this year's magarey d grade at best. C'mon SANFL pull your finger out - we demand better than the shit you put up this year.
10:29
Dutchy: We go there in the end, please make sure you let the SANFL know what you thought of their coverage...email/phone them tomorrow please
10:29
SAfooty: All this money spent on advertising, and trying to keep the game up there with the best - and this is what it's reduced to on 'medal night.

Dont know why a player winning a Magarey 3 years after delistment is a sign of derision of the AFL club. How many players have won a Magarey after coming over from the AFL? Heaps.
10:34

[Comment From topcat]
thanks goubloods.I just tried to email sanfl -might have to wait until they get the $4m back and restart their website,or it might be a permanent situation??
10:34

[Comment From Bruno]
He was a kid, to delist him at 19 is gutless. If he was black I bet he would have stayed on the list?
10:37

[Comment From macca]
He wasnt AFL standard then. He might be now, but then he might not. We'll know if he gets drafted.
10:38

[Comment From brucetiki]
one could say Paul Thomas was in the same boat - Crows rookie listed in 2002, delisted 2003, won Magarey 2004, got drafted to Essendon 2005, back at Centrals 2006. Some players can be talented SANFL footballers but can make that leap to the AFL
10:39
SAfooty: Alright people, ending this live coverage (*cough*) now .. back to the forum we go. Many thanks for coming here.
10:39

[Comment From bayman]
thanks for the ladder

[Comment From Bruno]
He will get drafted. Funny how port are after tough in and under midfielder now! Poor List management?

Well done to Archard and Ezard. Both very deserving winners. Can anyone confirm who got the 2 votes ahead of Jimmy Allan in the round 23 game against South? I know Archard had 47 touches but most people i know and most on the Roost felt Allan was easily BOG with his 38 touches and having more of an influence on the game. If a South player got 2 votes ahead of Allan in a 10 goal loss it is a joke.

Gee whiz. Allan can rightly feel pretty dissapointed but that's the way it goes. Can't argue with the winners and congratulations with them both.

Archard scored 9 votes in the last 3 rounds to steal a tie! Incredible!

Ezard, yeah you'd think he'd be looked at again given the weakness of the draft. A team would do well with him as a late pick. I think hes too old for rookie list now, but wouldnt be surprised to see him drafted with a 3rd/4th round pick.

Allan probably deserved atleast 2 votes and thus being a 3 way tie. that would have been remarkable.
on ch9, before and after the count, not impressed by Archard. Seems rather arrogant. However i excuse him a bit because im expecting him to be hungover due to mad monday yesterday, or even still pissed

All the round by round votes are up, and this match caught my eye:

Round 16
Central District vs Eagles
3 Scott DUTSCHKE (Central District) (11)
2 Daniel SCHELL (Central District) (2)
1 Chad O'SULLIVAN (Central District) (12)

How on earth did both Cica and Slade miss out on votes in this match is beyond me.

And then this is dejavu from last year:

Round 11
South Adelaide vs Eagles
3 James BOYD (South Adelaide) (3)
2 Mark (c) MCKENZIE (Eagles) (9)
1 Matthew BROADBENT (Eagles) (8)

No Jay Cheep? He was head and shoulders above everyone that day!

I have just emailed using the link provided geez it felt good letting go of my anger - here is what I had to say.

I am writing to complain about the disgraceful coverage of the 2009 Magarey Medal. You promised live round by round voting and whatyou delivered was a shambles - there were nothing morethan random updates at best and thatwas even if you could access the site at all as it crashed several times. I have been following the SANFL competition for 25 + years now and I am sick of the supporters of our great game being treated with such contempt. It is a tragedy that an event as prestigious as the Magarey Medal gets the coverage you provided this year. Wake up SANFL we deserve better.
