Interesting that Bolton, Goodes and Kyle Sandilands are the only players from non finals sides. I'd have LeCras in for Davis, Goddard in Goodwin's place and Bernie Vince on the bench.

Agree with this Zorro. Would have thought LeCras was just ahead of Porplyzia with both a country mile ahead of the rest.

Surely Le Cras or Porps had to make the side.

Stupid bloody thing anyway. They don't play together and it's meaning has diminished in the last 5 years IMO.

This was my side I picked in a winner-takes-all comp:

Prestigiacomo, Scarlett, Enright
Goddard, Bolton, Maxwell
Montagna, Judd (cap), Bartel
Swan, Riewoldt, Goodes
LeCras, Fevola, Brown,

Sandilands, Ablett, Boyd

Dal Santo, Clark, Lake, Didak

Got 10 in the right spots, and 18 out of the 22 in the side. Couldn't believe Goodwin got a gig, or Davis ahead of LeCras. Bartel was stiff too, but it's hard to split him and Selwood.

The AFL Team of the Year has been a joke for many years. Whereas i appreciate the team is selected by well meaning people with their own agenda whose opinions may differ from mine, some of the selections over the years have lacked total credibility.

I lost time for this fantasy team in 1991 when Paul Hudson had a great season on the half forward flank booting 62 goals in 25 games. Who was selected at HF for the AA team? Gavin Brown (15 goals from 18 games) and Nicky Winmar (12 goals from 17 games). Not only did both players miss a number of games, they didn't kick any goals either!!

Forgetting the argument that over a career, Brown and Winmar were probably better players, the simple fact remains neither of them had anywhere near as good a season in 1991 as Hudson.

To add to my annoyance, the Hawks won the flag that year and didn't have one single representative in the team. It's a farce.

Russell Ebert on 5AA this morning spoke about his experience as a AA selector and gave an interesting insight into the dilemma faced by the selectors (which doesn't sound resolved) about whether it's the best 22 players overall or the best players in their positions. ie, pick a side that would actually play a game and have best chance of success or reward the best 22 of the year even if it means that midfielders end up on the half back flank?

But either way why is a midfielder running around on his own getting 31 possessions each week relate to a better season than a bloke like Porplyzia or LeCras who have kicked 50+ goals while actually having an opponent!!
Why do we instantly think all these midfielders have had such amazing years?? Let's see what the bloke they are playing on is doing at the same time?? Most of them wouldn't know who their opponent is.
I agree the AA team is a joke - it's getting to the stage you can throw the Brownlow in with it!! And the best midfielder this year is.....
