Does anyone really believe the GFC is the reason for the reduction in budget this year?

There was one year about 10ish years ago the ABC didn't start the season until round 3 with the their coverage on weekends and I think the reason that year was so they could cover the MM later in the year.

Maybe the ABC could do this again? Don't cover the first round or 2 to have budget for the MM?

Also thought it had to do with ABC budget cuts at the time but thankfully we still have the coverage.

The 2006 Commonwealth Games - I thought it was some rubbish excuse like "we could cover the games but since the VFL couldn't, we decided to do the same" They only made up for one of those lost games, the Round 3 double header.

PORT Magpies ruckman Daniel Batson is the 2009 Reserves Magarey Medallist.

The 23-year-old, who will be officially announced as the winner at tonight’s count, has been unveiled on the Magpies’ website.

The 202cm ruckman joined the club from Victoria in 2007 and has played 24 League games, including five this season.

``Daniel’s award is thoroughly deserved. He was instrumental in the Reserves,’’ Reserves coach Mark Tylor said.

``With personal belief and a solid preseason he will be a potential force along side Jimmy Meiklejohn in the ruck for 2010.’’

After discussions with the SANFL they have agreed to cover the count via their website http://www.sanfl.com.au in real time.

This will supplement the live crosses from Channel 9 @ 6.10pm, 7.30pm, 8.30pm, 9.30pm and 10.30pm (featuring an interview with the winner). I will attempt to Youtube this ASAP for our interstate/overseas members or those that missed it.

It's pretty poor when the Premier footy comp in this state can't have a broadcast in some form for the premier award of the season. TV or Radio!

Maybe the SANFL could negotiate with the ABC to cover one game a week AND the Magarey Medal?

It's disappointing but to be expected. The market isn't really there for the TV to cover it. At least these days the supporters who are into it still have access via the net even though it's not the same.

As for Twitter, does anyone here use it? Usually I'm up with the latest but I just cant be bothered with it.
