As I mentioned before, I believe it was because the ball went through for a behind or out of bounds (not sure which one). It's got nothing to do with jumping or anything, it's when the contact is made is what matters. But the rule states that it must come back unless the player infringed wants the score (or even out of bounds!) to stand because it crossed the line.

Fair enough, can't say I actually saw where the ball landed. I would have been surprised if it had made the distance on the full, and if it didn't then would have thought it should have gone through where it landed. Or, if it went through for a point, then a kick with the mark being the fron of the goal square (perhaps this isn't the rule at the moment, but a possible change in the future).

I think it actually should be a rule change. Now, I know you'll all say "Oh no, another rule change" because I am in the same boat when I hear it myself. But not this time, as when you think about it, if a defender marks the ball just before the behind line, it's a downfield free kick. But if it just clears the defender for a behind, the kick goes back to where it came from upon request. I think it should be where it crosses the line. It's not that hard to kick a goal from there, you just need to think it through.

Granted, that would be fairer than the top of the square.

the umpire paid it down field however the ball crossed the line on the full so therefore you can't take your kick from behind the goals so you take it back to where the free was given....i did notice the first free kick after that went to wwt (possibly because the ball went back to the original free kick position)

I thought Ryswyk, Allan, Armstrong and Stewart were the best for North and we didn't seem to have anyone that could handle Stewart.

If Chambers returns next week I think we will struggle with this matchup also, like we have in the past. I think our only chance with this is if we are able to get Hentschel back.

Umpires were 100% correct with the FAD rule.

Corbett had kicked the ball and then was infringed thus a free to be paid down field.
Ball did not bounce in the field of play.
His first kick has scored a point with the ball crossing the line without bouncing or being touched.
Player is asked if he wants the score as is or would he prefer another kick.
Corbett took option of another kick thus no score and kick returned to where infingement occured as was last place ball was in the field of play.

If had bounced in play or was touched by a player and then gone through for a score the FAD would happen at spot where ball bounced or was touched by a player.

Good win - I loved the way we were able to come back after the Roosters hit the front in the last. Our fighting spirit was awesome. Now moving forward to next week and a battle with Sturt - with the possible returns of Shirley and Hentschel.

It's great to watch finals as a neutral, with no bias or lean to either side.
The poster who mentioned the pace of the two games needs to bear in mind that this was a cut-throat, no-next-week game. North play zoned type open flow football, not in close stuff like we do. So there was always going to be loose players, more scoring, more run and bounce in this match.

Entertaining match, and the leg break goal was a fitting sealer. Umpires IMHO were excellent.

Great game of footy to watch, with plenty of hard tackling on display.
I thought the Eagles used the corridor MUCH more than North. The Roosters seemed to be pushed wide to the flanks and pockets all day. Bring on next week!

About the Corbett free kick. At the time I agreed with the umpires handling of the free kick, but the Eagles/Corbett were actually disadvantaged as Corbett was on the run and kicked the ball from the fifty metre line but as he had to take the free kick, the opponent was allowed to stand on the 50 metre line forcing Corbett to kick from 54 to 55 metres hence putting Corbett at a disadvantage.

How good is Daniel Stewart.... first time I have seen him play. He was super impressive, and gave Power's Paul Stewart and former crow Kenny McGregor an absolute belting. Luckily for the Eagles he got a lot his footy outside 50 and without a Damon White or someone alike North couldnt consistently hit a target inside 50. He will be a ripper in the AFL in the next few years.

I don't think he cleaned up McGregor, maybe Stewart and Broadbent but Kenny seemed to quell his influence quite nicely, that's why Kenny was given best for the Eagles at the after match presentations.

I thought the best for Eagles were: Jarrad, Powell, Polec, Salter, McKenzie & Rimmington. Best for North were Allan, Archard, Stewart (surely has to get promoted to the Power senior list), Delvins and Cunningham (has to have a late start to 2010 after a crude hit on Corbett in the 4th qtr)

I thought Salter was quite restrained after that incident - considering he already had a dust up with him earlier.
