Paul Hasleby extends Fremantle contract by one year

September 10, 2009 After a protracted round of negotiations, midfielder Paul Hasleby has agreed to a one-year contract extension with AFL club Fremantle.

Hasleby, 28, had wanted a new multi-year deal but the Dockers stood firm in offering him just one more season.

"Paul is an outstanding and decorated Fremantle player and we are delighted that he has committed to the club for season 2010," said Fremantle's player manager Brad Lloyd.

"After missing a year of football through injury, Paul played all 22 games in 2009 and we believe that he is capable of playing even better football next year."

The veteran of 188 games for the Dockers said he was already looking forward to next season.

"I'll be starting pre-season training in early November and I'm excited about playing my 11th season with Fremantle," he said.

"Along with all the senior players, I've really enjoyed working with our young playing group.

"There is a lot to like about the future of the Fremantle football club and I'm very keen to be a part of that."

The Dockers' two biggest stars, captain Matthew Pavlich and ruckman Aaron Sandilands, come out of contract at the end of next season.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Although Hasleby only got a 1-year deal with Fremantle that does not mean he intends to retire after next season.

If he stays injury free he'll be looking to play on beyond 2010, even if it means seeking opportunities elsewhere.

He played some good footy this year and I reckon Fremantle should have signed him for a further 2 years.

I dunno, I liked the result against Port Power at Subi this year.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

There in the same position the Power are right now, watching the finals and Freo have the better draft picks. ;)

So you dont have any finals or Premiership(s) to hang your hat on?

Must be lonely there, only club with no flag.

Does surprise IMHO as he is like Greg Williams but without Williams' vision or fast hands and truly feel that the game has passed him by even though he is still only 28. Look for the dockers to be bottom 3 again next year if he's still a regular part of their midfield.

Well if his hands and vision aren't as good he's nothing like Greg Williams. I'm just like Usain Bolt, just shorter, slower and not as well tanned.... ;)
