England vs Australia-3rd ODI

Postby Gozu » Wed Sep 09, 2009 5:44 pm

It's a late one starting tonight at 10:30pm on both Fox & SBS. Supposedly the great Stuart Broad will still be out for the poms and hopefully Ferguson can make it three straight fiddys.

Another boring knock from Clarke.
In all seriousness should he be named T20 captain? I know he will, but is he in the top 6 T20 bastmen in Australia??? I say no.

If scoring 7 makes you a gun then what does scoring 10 mean (Bopara)?

White with his first ODI ton, didn't expect that.

Strange strange strange game
WATSON 3/36
WATSON 7
Both countries should announce a public holiday
EG for finally dismissing Watson for less than double figures
AU for Watson finally getting 3 wickets
And the biggest  of all was Watson dismissed LBW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was no that long ago I mentioned that Watto and Whitey were good players
Both used to bat 6-7-8 and both never had opportunities to make good scores
The baggers used to get stuck into them [rightfully at times]
How the tide has turned
And great to see Ferguson playing extra well

FERG
71[75]
55[58]
20*[17]

WHITE
53[71]
42[66]
105[124]

The WHITE Australian policy is paying off

AU lead 3-0
Biggest problem now is how to fit PONTING back in the team ? ;)

The only thing this team lacks is an explosive top order batter in the first 20 overs
WATTO/PAINE/WHITE/CLARKE are all mainly too correct in that top order
WATTO/WHITE can slog in the late overs, but not as yet early
With this in mind there could and SHOULD be this longshot for the 4th OD1

It is almost criminal to not play WHITE at 3 ?
Ponting with the field up can play naturally and get AU off to a good start
Paine simply is not a OD1 opener [but quite possibly a very very good Test keeper one day]
Even though AU is 3-0 they are missing HADDINs batting

Come on mal, White has one good innings in a row against a team that resembles England A and you are blowing wind up his ar$e immediately. Ponting is a proven number 3 for Australia in both forms of the game, why go and change one of the things that has worked consistently for the past 6 or 7 years. There is no turning of the tides, there are far better options that Cameron White in the top order.
There's no doubt that if Watto can stay fit for long enough he could be a regular fixture in the opening role, I'd like to see a left-hander in there though with Punter, Ferg and Clarke coming in at 3,4 & 5.
Haddin would have to be opening or 6 or 7, which would mean another right hander, lefties were all the go 10 years ago, we are now struggling for quality left-handed batsmen.

You want to bat Hussey at 7? Seems a bit of a waste to me.

Agree with Cyclops
AND
White is only half the cricketer Ponting is
BUT
Ponting is a decade older then White and his 50 over days are almost over
White is peaking, Ponting could be declining [only coz if age]
Whatever happens White must be allowed to bat 3 or at worst 4
We have a World Cup to think about, and need to pick batting lineups that can handle spin
White at 3-4 is a solution

When we finally have our best XI to select:

Haddin
Watson
Ponting
Clarke
Ferguson
White
Hopes
Johnson
Hauritz - surprisingly has impressed me
Lee
Bracken

If the batting is a bit thin, Hopes to open and Watto at 6, White 7.

A fair effort there, I'm not sure on Lee's inclusion, seems to be going for a bit in England, our first lefty coming in at 8, I'd really like to see one in the top 4, it stuffs the field and bowlers around enough to warrant.
I wonder how Mitch would go up the order, it would be well worth the try IMO, we'd have nothing to lose, if we were relying on him to come in at 8 and save the day it would mean the batsmen didn't do their jobs.

If you want a left hander
Travis Birt
There is a World Cup in the sub cont next time round
And Travis loves giving spectators fielding practice

Other leftys
Warner
North
Cos...

Surely Davey Warner will get a gig at some stage

Whoever is selected MUST be a good player of spin

Warner is definetely one we should keep persisting with, North's spin could come in handy in the sub-continent, it could enable us to play an extra batsman.
