Has anyone been to Honiara in the Solomon Islands before?

If so, any feedback would be appreciated.

Just check what side of the road they drive on. ;)
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Good point!
I've not been, but I hear it can be potentially dangerous. Personally, I'm fairly adventurous when it comes to travel, but I'd be giving the Solomons a big miss.

I went to Honiara on a good old Fairstar cruise, but a long time ago.

I hired a cab for the day at a pretty reasonable price and had a look around.

The harbour and the sunsets were great, but I can't remember too much else, unfortunately.

DFAT's travel advice for Solomon Islands is 'Exercise Caution'. By DFAT standards (who seem to prefer that you'd never leave the seat of your couch) that's almost as good as an all clear ;)

If you exercise common sense while you're there and be careful not to walk around alone at night, you'll be fine, provided there isn't an election (is it cyclone season there yet?).

Cheers (all).

Right now things like Malaria, Cholera and Typhoid seem the biggest issue with the place.
