Interesting to note that Punter hasn't retired from IPL T20 or KFC Big Bash T20.....

Good on him for ensuring he is able to play the most important form of the game for as long as possible. Also i hope Michael Clarke follows suit, yes he is much younger i know, but he isn't that good at T20 cricket and it would allow him a rest at some stage on the international stage.

It is his job and he is making the most out of it as possible good on him. He will be playing test cricket or one dayers when the KFC big bash is on and will probably play a minimal time in the IPL.

Missing the international t20's will allow him to spend some more time with family and less time abroad, which is fair for someone who has done so much for the sport.

Good. Australia might move forward in that format of the game if a few more put their hand up and retire too. Personally I don't like the 20/20 format and hence think this is a good move of Ponting's from Test Cricket's perspective.

Maybe you should stop and have a think about what the team which wins the KFC Big Bash qualifies for....otherwise why would he even bother playing in the comp?

If he really was serious about prolonging his Test & ODI career, he'd stop playing T20 cricket althogether until he retires. Ala Warne & McGrath.

Yes they qualify for the champions trophy which has plenty of $$$$ involved. I don't see Ricky playing in that if he doesn't play any of the KFC games anyway.

ponting said in his interview that him and most australian players in the next couple years are looking to have more involvement in the KFC big bash. I think this will make the cricket summer a fair bit longer which i wont complain about. (aslong as 20/20 doesnt take most of it)

Isn't the KFC big bash scheduled for the new years - early january period?

If so Ponting will be too busy playing test cricket and one dayers to play KFC big bash this upcoming summer.

Yes u are right Bloods, but from what i gathered from his interview, the KFC big bash in future will not conflict with the Australian tests (well not the entire season).

This summer will be unbearable. January is lost to Teeball and I might be able to get a game with the Windies. Thank god for the Pakis I say..or thank the Prophet Mohammed at least. Why can't teeball be played in February so I can watch some pre-season footy instead. In January it's 0 League and Australian Open Tennis and Teeball. Summer is now officially ****** for the rest of my days.

International 20/20s - there's only two of them at the most on each tour and are played within a week. Not much to cut back on?
