FINALS FOOTY RECORD

Postby Benchwarmer » Mon Sep 07, 2009 6:14 pm

What the hell is with the AFL?

TEN DOLLARS FOR ONE FOOTY RECORD last weekend.

Don't they know that we are in tough economic times. Just double the ticket price for finals. Make the record two-and-a-half times the normal price for 20 pages more (mainly pictures that weren't really necessary).

At that price, you wouldn't want to write in it, let alone get the tiniest of dog-ears on a corner if you wanted to sell or trade it later!

Another cash grab to justify and fund teams 17 and 18 ... geez, they BETTER not fail with initiatives like a $10 Record. Imagine all those parents telling their kids to share instead of having one each like they might normally do ... gives me the image of chocolate bars at kids' eye level at the supermarket checkout. "Daddy, I want one too. I always get my own one!"

My tip is a $20 Grand Final Record in the newsagents come Grand Final week ... I don't think many will bother at that price ... even if it is supposed to be a collectable (well, the newsagent ones are worth nowhere near the Match Day edition).

Red-faced, cross-eyed rant over!
... and breathe!!!

Just means more people will see the light at a younger age and watch SANFL, SAAFL or country footy instead because it's more affordable ... saying that, I was in Melbourne on the weekend and the local finals are $13 for adults (then add $2 for your programme). I know the VAFA have $10 per adult, $2 for a record and $5 to park your car inside the ground.

These lower levels are catching on too ... unfortunately :(

LOL - I remember my Grandfather being upset with 40c for a VFL Record back in 1980.

Makes me laugh a bit now ... sheez, I'm getting old!

not having a crack at ya benchy, but i get a little annoyed at people whinging about something like this. i, and i dare say most people on this forum, wouldnt think twice about spending more than $10 on a measly 3 beers at your local footy club/pub. so $10 to me (and by no means am i any more "well-off" than an average bloke) for a footy record seems reasonable. having said that, i wouldnt buy one if my team wasnt part of the finals, but if collingwood make the GF, i would happily fork out $20 for the GF edition.

My thoughts were partly driven by walking through Yarra Park before the game and hearing the comments aimed at the sellers and also witnessing a Bulldog family of six going up to a seller with $20 and asking for five. When he got told he needed another 30, he said to make it just one at that price.

You can guess what happened next as we walked away ... we all know the under 8's in a family don't know much about family economies. I thought that making it somewhere closer $7 (like I think it was last year), they would sell a few more copies and probably end up with a higher level of revenue collected.

Personally, I always buy one for H&A games but if they are going to rise it annually at such a rate then you have to decide whether you eat/drink or read.

They may have done better making it relevant for all four matches with teams, news, etc and charging the same price or maybe as high as $12 then it is relevant for the whole weekend and not just for one game. The NRL programme (Big League) costs $5 per week up until the GF and though it is not as great for reading, at least they have all the team line-ups so you can refer to it if you are watching telly for some of the other games.

completely agree about the family issue. as i only have the one gromit, and he's not of reading age, i would only buy 1 anyway.

I couldn't believe it.

I rocked up at the game, went to buy one, asked how much, he replied $10 and I put my wallet away.

RIP OFF.
