Got any evidence to back that statement up ?

Sleeping giants comment was either one of the following:

(a) A big "bait" to get a bite?
(b) True to his name he has been sleeping for the past 10 years?
(c) Simply one of the dumbest post of all time?

My money is on (c)!

(d) being sarcastic maybe? :-k

(e) - A little bit of each from (c) and (d) perhaps ;)

I've already given my reasons on page 1...which teams are involved is not the issue...it's showing every game within a round the same level of respect. I re-opened the thread as promised and unless you're somehow suffering PTSD because of it then no harm was done to you all.

So what have we got awaiting us next Sunday afternoon? Well I think its fair to say you have a team in Sturt, who without doubt are the most lethal team in the league when it comes to punishing sides that don't apply themselves on the day, but who at the same time, seem to be coming up short against the two heavyweights of the league at the business end of the season. In the other corner you have the seasoned campaigner in Central, who finished in the top three without much fanfare and when on song, are very difficult to beat, they can't be physically put off their game, but they can be matched and they can sometimes not apply themselves.

For me this is truly a 50-50 game... at most I'd give the Doggies a very slight edge. The real question here is will Central come to play properly and will Sturt put in 4 quarters against quality opposition?

Last season we saw what both sides are capable of in a Qualifying Final. I thought Sturt were brilliant for three quarters as they soaked up Centrals hard-at-it game style, gave it back with interest and kicked away to a commendable lead. Unfortunately for me, the game goes another quarter and unlike most sides, Centrals had it in them to throw down the gauntlet just one more time in the hope that they'd panic Sturt out of its game style, which they did and history shows a comeback win for the Dogs. I think we'll see something similar on Sunday, one of these teams will get the upper hand and keep it.

Either Centrals will be on top early and roll on to a comfortable 4-5 goal win...

OR

Sturt will get the upper hand and unlike last year, play out four quarters and comfortably knock the Dogs over by 5-6 goals...

The key for Sturt is to keep Buckets MacKenzie under control, he can out tap us, we can rove off him, but we can't let him control the game around the ground. He might eat a lot of pies, but the man has courage by the truck load and stamina that defies the build of the man, Angus Kurtze needs to show him respect, but not give him an inch. That is a key match up. Central can stop Chambers, but they need to stop the midfield feed to the forward line. Sturt just need to stay focused and above all, reduce the number of unforced errors that Centrals will pounce on and capitalise on.

My tip for this blockbuster...

Sturt 21-30

There's some heart in that, but just have a feeling the tide needs to turn against the SANFL powerhouse sometime...

CSB, what a load of complete and utter good read!
As with another Dog poster, I think you are totally correct, and have presented exactly what I see.
I'll go one step further, and say that we'll bow out in straight sets, and end the dynasty. Sturt and the Bays to go the journey.
I don't think we can beat you in the day, and you struggle against us under lights - especially at Elizabeth, where the space is the issue.

Currently forecast for Sunday is 24, probable late showers (might be like the 2000 Second Semi, what an experience that was!)...

If Ryan Williams doesn't play (another shocker on the weekend), Sturt by 21-30. If he plays, try 51-60!

Nice to see Luke Norman being positive about the finals but ...

We believe we can have an impact. We beat the Dogs by 85 points this year, and had Glenelg on toast two weeks ago and let them off the hook.

Mate, you should start a career in politics with that spin!

2000 was colder than 24 (16.6 max), but 2001 may be a better comparison. I certainly remember the rain in the last quarter of the 2000 Semi (although I know there was a couple of showers before then during the Port/Sturt 1st Semi).

2001 also had showers, but also about half time or so, I was in the new Northern Stand and remember watching the lightning over where the hills are. The max temp that day was 28.6.

Anyway, I took your word for what you had, but Central had won 5 out of the last 8 minor round matches in 2000.

Finals temperatures were:
2000:
QF - 17.2
2SF - 16.6
GF - 16.4

2001:
2SF - 28.6
GF - 16.7

2002:
2SF - 19.3
GF - 24.3

2003:
2SF - 24.7
GF - 19.3

2004:
2SF - 20.8
GF - 17.5

2005:
2SF - 20.3
GF - 26.6

2006:
QF - 29.5
2SF - 15.0
GF - 17.7

2007:
2SF - 20.3
GF - 17.9

2008:
QF - 17.5
2SF - 22.5
GF - 22.8

would it be fair to say the loser of this match would most probably not go top ?...i'd say yes & that is why this is even more important for both teams than most realise......cue spelly, i think the only loser of the qualifying final to go top was ironically sturt in 1976 ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway
