Mal, you are being sensationalistic about those past finals series.

In 2005 Adelaide finished top and lost their first final. That meant they gave up their right to a home prelim final. Port did the same in 02 and 03. Other teams then stepped in to take up the opportunity that was given up. If that's luck, so be it. I've never whinged about how hard done by we were in 05 because I know we blew it when we had our chance.

In both 1993 and 1997 higher ranked teams lost their first final (NM in 93, Geelong in 97) and the Crows were next in line to take the opportunity. In 03, Brisbane got a home prelim thanks to Port losing in week 1. Do you think the 03 Lions were lucky?

In 1998, it was the old final 8 system where the 5th ranked team (us) had to travel and play the 4th team first up. Compare that to Friday night where we played the 8th team at home. Under the old system, every 5th ranked team that lost first up got a second chance. You had to be extremely unlucky to not get a second chance. It would only happen if 2 of the top 3 teams also lost on the first weekend. We then had to Sydney, Melbourne and Melbourme to win the premiership. We didn't play a single final at home. That's hardly laying it out on a silver platter for us.

If the footy gods were smiling on us then they paid us back with all those injuries late in 05 and 06. That's the way footy goes.

And I guess that because collingwood only have a 6 day break, Pendleburys cracked fibula wont be ready for this week. If only he had 2 more days he could be ready to go............

If Collingwood and Saints had played Saturday they all would have whinged that they only got a 6 day break into the first week of finals.. they had to play on Sunday and the best fit for Brisbane was Saturday night, which left the Crows with Friday...

Yes the 8 day v 6 day break is a massive advantage and I agree it shouldn't have been programmed like that but to suggest it's a free ride is just plain laughable..

Home ground advantage... The MCG is the premier venue in Australia, why would you hold finals anywhere else in Melbourne?? MAL - would you prefer the GF be played at Etihad (holding 50,000) or last year at skilled holding (25,000) instead of allowing 100,000 fans to go along???

BY all means complain the Saints only played 1 game during minor round, that's not right.. but seriously - all finals in Melb between 2 victorian clubs, should be at the MCG...
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

I agree a 6 day break vs a 8 day break is wrong. The advantage for Collingwood in this instance was they had the longer break for the first round of finals and if they had won they wouldn't find themselves in this situation. As many of the players say now anyway, as long as they get 6 days rest any more is usually worth very little.

but st kilda would have been in this situation if collingwood had won, and given that they were minor premiers, would probably make the situation that little bit worse!

Mal, not many would be disagreeing that we are very fortunate to get the extra 2 days break. Your 90's arguments were rather laughable though, even resorting to umpiring decisions, get your hand off it old fella.....
