Forgive me for asking a stupid question, but why would someone like Luke Fitzimmons, who has been in Adelaide playing District cricket, want to waste his time playing Renmark District and ripping sides apart every week?
Surely more people in Renmark want to actually play A grade cricket? People like Tony Victor, Dan Shawyer and co. who have been keen as to get it up and running must be tearing their hair out.
I might be jumping the gun, as the RTCA AGM is tonight and we may know more after that, but if the early rumours are true they are going to struggle to get a good side together again.

Fitzy just wants to have a hit with his mates, which is why he's playing for the Rams.
Probably only bowl a few overs a game at this stage and is going to mainly be used as a batsman. The next couple of years could be his last in cricket.
Agreed on Tony Victor, he has worked his arse off to keep the A grade going, but apart from rocking up Dan Shawyer has not done stuff all.
I heard Shawyer was on the phone to Berri the minute he heard the A grade might not be going ahead, rather than hunting for players.
The A grade players themselves have done little as far as recruiting goes and not one turned up to the Renmark District AGM last week.
They still might get a side together, but there's probably not much point with 6 blokes who are keen to just rock up and not do the hard yards.

The District comp is too popular with the teams/players currently involved in it.
If Dan wants to go to Berri or any other team that's fine, but at least have a crack at getting an A grade side together at Renmark first.

I only hope they get their s**t together, which will probably involve scrapping that Renmark District Comp, and come back in with a long term plan to stay in very soon. Tony Victor is not happy apparently, but at the same time relieved that he doesn't have to continue trying to hold together a cricket club without too much assistance.
It's pretty hard to see a 4 team comp as a legitimately good one, and I think we should be working on getting at least 6 in there, as well as much more 2 day cricket.
How we get to 6 teams without Renmark is a bit of a tough one, but I would suggest, as was the idea with the footy a while back, joining up with some Mallee teams, or even Mid Murray teams (if they are good enough). With lots of teams involved you could even get a bit of a conference system going to reduce the travel a bit.
I'll be interested to hear people's thoughts, and see how much of this gets ripped to shreds.
