OUT OF ACTION: Josh Carr (43) will not play for Glenelg again this year

PORT ADELAIDE Power duo Steven Salopek and Josh Carr will not play finals for Glenelg.

The pair have been ruled out by the Power with Salopek set to undergo shoulder surgery and Carr battling an ankle injury.

Carr has played four games for Glenelg this season, while Salopek has played three.

In better news for Bays fans, Tom Logan and Daniel Meyer have been given the all clear to help the Tigers challenge for a premiership.

Meyer has spent the majority of the season at the Bay, while Logan has played just two games.

Sturt defender Toby Thurstans (calf) and North’s Marlon Motlop (groin soreness) are also unavailable.

Woodville-West Torrens looks set to benefit the most from Port’s failure to make the AFL finals, with Nick Salter, Matthew Broadbent and Paul Stewart all available to play this week.

Mitch Banner and Jarrad Redden have also been given the OK, but have been playing in the Eagles Reserves.

Central District will have the services of Matthew Westhoff and Jonathon Giles, although Giles has also been playing in the Twos.

Be interesting if the Crows will allow Griffen to play for the Dogs if the Crows get knocked out, had his injury troubles this year so maybe not...

am Bays wrote:Whilst not privy to the scans a positive for Brodie is that given the relative structural integrity of the joint he was able to keep playing and the only real sign was the swelling - it augars well for a successfull recovery.

If there is no associated MCL or menisci damage he should recover well - unlike the trainwreck of Hentschells knee.

HAving said all that he will be a big loss for Sturt in the finals.

As far as I know that's the only real thing holding players back, if the meniscus is damaged or not, because the damned things just dont heal. It's incredible what they can do with rebuilding and replacing the ligament however.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Quite remarkable how fit the AFL listed players are one day and then the next day they are not
That next day seemingly falls soon after the last AFL game the club played.

Can you imagine
AFL listed player playing in a SANFL Grand Final
28 minutes b4 the game starts
His AFL club official walks into the rooms and makes him unavailable
Becoz
The AFL team has scheduled a beach run the next day

The AFL clubs should not get too precious about who they let play and not let play in the SANFL finals as these AFL clubs need the SANFL clubs during the year to bring their players back into form and give them conditioning and touch. A little bit of give and take is required.

IIRC in past years the AFL players comming back for finals have had to sit out a week before being able to play finals if they have been cleared by their club, in the case of the Port players comming back to the Eagles does this mean they are unable to play in the Elimination Final as this week is a bye? Was talking to someone at work who had heard that this may be the case, anyone know if this has happened previously and which clubs were affected?
Trust the process.

My understanding of this was that this rule only applies to Round 23 - if a player played the previous week for an AFL club then he could not play in Round 23 but was eligible for finals if he had played 3 SANFL games during the season.
We used to be good :-(

Come on Columbo.....the great detective that you are you should have known this or been able to find out. Only applies to round 23, it would be terribly unfair to the team which finishes in the finals and has the bye in round 23!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
