And why wouldn't they? Those AFL listed players are employed by them, not the SANFL clubs.
If there is a good relationship between the AFL and SANFL clubs concerned, then they will work it out. If Port or Adelaide do not wish for an AFL listed player on their list to play SANFL finals that is their right.
On the flip side, the SANFL clubs can quite legitimately select the best 21 players who want to play for their club in the finals. If an AFL listed player or his club are not keen to play SANFL finals it's an easy decision, the SANFL club selects a player who will be committed to the club instead.
So, for example at the Bays, Steven Salopek needs a shoulder operation and Port's season is over, fine, he has the op regardless if the Bays have upcoming finals matches. The Bays will play one of their own who has lived and breathed being a Tiger all year and will be itching to represent his club, problem solved.
I personally don't care if the Bays play 5 AFL listed players or none, as long as the best available and committed 21 players are selected to represent the club in the finals.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.
