The 07 season showed that the drivers aren't complete robots. The tension between Alonso and Hamilton was reminiscent of Prost and Senna in 89...
Kimi is unique. Pity he's a bit like Jaques Villenueve in so far as he never really seems 100% committed to the job at hand...

Not quite sure how you come to the conclusion that they lack commitment.
Focus.... attention... perhaps. But commitment? Nah no chance for lacking commitment during peak performances. You don't become World Champion from lack of commitment.
Sure Kimi doesn't live at the Ferrari test track like some 7 times World Champ did. But they are different people. Different doesn't mean lacking commitment.
It's pretty hard to judge from the outside too.
I mean Michael Patrizi works hard. He made it to testing GP2. But just wasn't quick enough. Sure he might be a bit light headed at times. But in general terms he is one committed individual who works quite hard at his driver instructor work and in his V8 Supercar antics.
Sure he has some bundles of $100 bills under his pillow. But overall, he's committed. From the outside. Perhaps he is seen as a lazy SORF (Son Of Rich Father). But sometimes these people are genuine, they just lack talent.
But Formula 1 at SPA. I just hope the track can hold on for another few years as I would love to attend at Eau Rouge.

To make it to F1 you need to be committed, but I really don't believe that Kimi has the same level of committment as a Schumacher, Senna, Prost or Lauda. I do think however that he does have the talent. When he's on song he's blindingly fast...
Kimi will always be a World Champion, but his title was more a result of the failings of the McLaren team than his dominance of the 2007 season.

It shouldn't matter. Winning the World Championship doesn't come down to 'luck'. Even Keke Rosberg wasn't 'lucky' that he won his World Championship. Simply put. The team/driver combination were the BEST for that year. You can identify the reasons that you believe won/lost championships. But at the end of the day. It was the BEST combination that won.
But that is your opinion. I respect that. Different opinions makes life more interesting. If we all thought the same. Boring.

Yep. Spa-Francorchamps would have to be my all time fave, and by quite a distance too.
Eau Rouge-Radillon, Pouhon, and Stavelot-Blanchimont would all be fantastic places to watch an F1 race.
Use to love the old bus stop too..pity they changed it.
La Source always makes for an interesting start too...

I think Red Bull should really be a class above the rest this weekend. The cooler conditions should see Brawn unable to produce their best.
Badoer appears to be a waste of time in the Ferrari. Why they chose to give him the drive (as he obviously has no future as a racer in f1) is beyond me. There are a heap of up and coming drivers who could have been given an opportunity. I'm pretty sure we won't see Luca at the next race...
Looking forward to qualifying tonight. I expect to see one of the Red Bull's on pole but as Murray Walker used to say - "Anything can happen in Formula One...(and it usually does...).

Qualifying should be reasonably exciting. Will just enjoy the perfect picture of Formula 1 cars (not beasts these days) flying through Eau Rouge. I use to love watching Jarno Trulli in Jordan at Turn 1 (la source).
As for the waste of space Ferrari test drivers racking up 'race' mileage. Well they are definately no Mika Salo who should have won that race if not for the situation that he was in.
Which brings me to the conclusion. That if necessary Ferrari would bring in race-ready drivers who can do the job as a racing sub. But the current situation that Ferrari are in, I doubt whether any points are going to be beneficial to them. So if your not racing for points...... why bother risking tens of thousands per lap to gain nothing. Might as well spend your money wisely and use it as a test.
Having said that. The current race driver employed as a race driver. Is less likely to do so. And must continue to do his job as a race driver. Within reason.

Going back to the subject of talent. That comes back to a fine art and of course DNA.
Not that I know the details of many Formula 1 drivers DNA make-up. But in terms of the wonderful Senna. He had an advantage through DNA which enabled him to learn quite quickly and react quicker than what other drivers could. As that was through his amazing eye sight.
These little quirks. Like Lance Amstrong and his heart that enabled him to pump blood at a faster rate than the average person. Of course enhanced by training.
It is these little genetic gifts that help create LEGENDS of sport.
Which brings us back to the point of talent. You are born with this DNA. How you use it. Is up to you. If you work at it and use it to your advantage. You are then perceived to have natural talent.
Good old Senna. He is still missed. Pity the next generation of Formula 1 fanatics are just going to know of Michael Schumacher (not that it is a bad thing..... but 7 WDC was a bit too much for my liking).

In other news ALVARO PARENTE qualifies on pole for the GP2 Race 1 at Spa this weekend.
Parente can definately drive. In British F3 I remember watching his style of racing and believed that he wouldn't be far off Formula 1. Then at A1GP at Eastern Creek, the ballsy T1, he was one of the few drivers who went all guns blazing around these. (One driver went too much and rolled into the tyre barrier....team lebanon from memory....bashir maybe?).
Anyways. Good luck to Parente. He's got some skill.
