They've just interviewed Marcel Marceau

Good effort considering he died 2 years ago ... maybe it was a phone interview?

If they're looking at dead people, why not Amy Winehouse then?
It's all the SANFL's fault.

No more than Harpo Marx ...

Anyway, back on track. I think the question was something about where in the process the 'Legs are at the moment. We know that the Eagles have closed applications now.

They have said all along they need to talk to people cunnrently involved in finals. Once their finals committments are over, Norwood will have a beter idea of where they stand.

Expect an announcement late September, very early October at the latest.

Hopefully a bloody rumour!!!! I will be mighty unhappy if MY club doesn't hunt down the best coach avilable! Like I asked on redleg talk, apart from playing AFL and chucking a few tantrums, why is Basset touted as the next saviour of the NFC???

Yep, we've seen evidence NB can follow instructions well, and be an effective player in that context, but nothing to demonstrate he can communicate and coach.
There has been too much emphasis on handball in his career for my liking, too, given the less skilled players available at SANFL level.

I don't know either. The NFC needs someone to unite them not divide and conquer.

Cornes just thinks anyone who played for the Crows would have knowledge and coaching ability far beyond those of mortal men.

You couldn't go wrong with Nathan Bassett- a real thinker about the game. successful at the highest level after battling for many years to become a regular at AFL level. has an infectous passion for the game and for the norwood football club.

If he doesn't tick all the boxes, who will? Realistically, the bloke could walk into an AFL assistant role if he wanted it. I reckon only his passion for the Legs will sway him from the AFL assistant path and consider taking over at Norwood.

Just for once I'd like to have a coach who isn't cutting his teeth at league level. The last time we named a coach with previous league experience was Haydn Bunton in 1965.

Seriously?

Hammond, Balme, Rohde and (almost) Craig would seem obvious retorts to that mindset.

Why? They didn't have previous league experience and were from a different era, so I fail to see the point.

Hammond inherited a ready made team and just added salt, Balmey should have coached more flags in his 11 seasons than just 2, Craig did nothing with Norwood, and Rhode nicked off the moment an AFL job came along, and broke his contract to do it.

Seems to be done and dusted that Nathan Bassett has the job according to several people that aren't involved in this forum.
Will he end up getting the nod though?

Bassett is the hot tip ... should be announced anytime now.

FWIW, not sure that it will be a great appointment but I guess time will tell.

Well, there are no guarantees he will be a good coach, but he may be ... who knows?

... and some of your Norwood mates above aren't so sure.

2 things though.

The obvious one is that he has never coached before, and the 2nd is that if he is any good, how long do you think he will last at Norwood before he wants to get into the AFL system?

I would have thought that some stability as well as success is in order.

But what would I know? :-s
