Because there is too many "old Port" people involved at the Power and it seems that the Whole Fos, Stephen, Choco dynasty is the only way to go. The opportunity to start afresh with a Buckley or a Hardwick type may not come up for a while. Hardwick would have been a perfect fit because of his experience away from Alberton but also the fact that he was a key player in the 2004 flag win.

Don't tease us by putting forward the sensible, logical option that was obvious to everyone except the Alberton 'brains trust'.

We've still got two more years of this $#@%!

They couldnt afford anyone else, so they went with Williams by halving his pay packet.
Bad move that will cost Port members I reckon.

Something has to give in Port coach and CEO's ugly showdown

So who are the 4 or 5 players who actually want him there?
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Found it

In a series of coaching developments yesterday it also emerged that:

■ Embattled Port Adelaide coach Mark Williams has yet to sign or even sight his completed two-year contract.

■ Garry Lyon is set to move back into the AFL coaching system following official talks yesterday with league bosses David Matthews and Kevin Sheehan.

■ Richmond assistants David King and Brian Royal look certain to depart Tigerland following round 22, with caretaker Jade Rawlings still uncertain of his future.

■ Dean Laidley's assistants at the Kangaroos, Darren Bewick and Daniel Daly, look certain to move on from Arden Street with Brad Scott in charge, while North midfield coach Anthony Rock is in line to take on VFL side Werribee.

■ Hardwick's former Essendon premiership coach Kevin Sheedy remains highly unlikely to stay with the Tigers in his membership and marketing role.

With Brisbane on the eve of its first finals series in five years, the club will give its rookie senior coach the chance to rebuild his coaching team for 2010.

The Brittain brothers - Wayne joined the Lions as an assistant coach at the start of the season, while Craig is a development coach at the club - appear keen to move back full-time into their sprinkler-instalment business, while Johnson, another development coach, wants to return to Melbourne.

Leppitsch, who applied for the Richmond senior job, has been encouraged to develop his craft outside Brisbane.

Lyon remains unwilling to commit to a passion to become a senior coach but will begin his role with the AFL in October at this year's draft camp and will continue next season to mix his extensive media commitments with his AFL-AIS development and coaching role. His move, however, will continue to invite speculation as to a future senior club coaching position.

While Hardwick remained coy yesterday as to his prospective new assistants, Wayne Campbell looks certain to remain, while Craig McRae, the Tigers' development coach who replaced Rawlings at Coburg mid-season, is contracted for another year.

Who realistically can take over the reigns from Choco?

I don't think any of his assistant are capable of being the next coach of PAFC.

It was interesting to hear yday that Choco instructed Ladey to find coaching work outside of Port Adel. Maybe its such that he thinks Lade may oppose him. He does like to appoint yes man.

I know at SANFL level the players are instructing the Board to pick an external coach (someone with no affliation with Port Adel). Maybe its time for the Power to think the same.

Its long overdue that Port Adelaide in the AFL developed it's own 21st century culture rather than trying to hang on to the Fos Williams era and all that came with it.
If they want improvement, get people on board who have the balls to make changes with tough decisions. Stop pussy footing around to please some people, it's majority rules and I reckon the majority would like to see new blood coaching the Power.
If he hasn't or wont sign, let him go! Convince me I'm wrong!

Sometimes the board HAS to look outside the "love", and make hard decisions.....

The Club in the past made some hard decisions about God and JC, in the end - both worked in the club's favour. The 3rd of the "families", somehow seems to be holding the club to ransom. As much as we have loved Chocco in the past, it ain't working anymore. Players don't want to be there, they are being played way out of position and not being given the opportunity to play where they are suited best, the game plan is absolute sh*t 90% of the time & worst of all, when we get headed - we throw the bloody towel in - THAT IS NOT PORT ADELAIDE.....

When we lose, people will try and argue that is not the coach's fault, it is the players not doing the right thing - what a crock of crap!!! The coach is there to get the best out of his players, and if they are not competitive on the day - whose fault is that? It is the coach's fault because he hasn't had the side turn up to play.

Sorry Chocco and fellow Port supporters, but I am deserting ship until the club shows the balls to make the correct decisions, both on and off the field. The club as a whole is not operating the PORT ADELAIDE WAY, it is not what I signed on for as a supporter some 42 years ago, & 99% of the problem stems from the coach's box. I don't care so much whether we win or we lose, as long as we are having a go - but that doesn't happen any more......... When the team starts playing accountable footy, I'll start going again - but not till then.

The Board should have made the decision to get rid of Chocco when they had the chance - there was the perfect coach there in the waiting.......Laidley had a bit of mongrel in him as a player, and let's face it - he has done pretty well with limited talent at North Melbourne - he would have been ideal.

Had to eat plenty of humble pie to sign that contract didn't he ??
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Laidley may be a good coach but he doesn't have the necessary public persona or charisma to "sell" a club to new members.

For a club like Port Adelaide, that's as crucial as it was at NM.

Laidley will likely only ever be an assistant coach from here on in for that very reason.

It sounds sacriledge to suggest it's not all about the ability to coach anymore, but that's how I hear it. That's one of the reasons the senior coach gets surrounded by a crew of assistants these days.
In between signatures .....

Agree with most of what you said in regards to how we have been playing but jumping ship is not on. You talk about the Port Adelaide way but unless you are Shaun Burgoyne jumping off when things suck is not the Port Adelaide way.

Shaun Burgoyne has had the "PORT WAY" drilled in to him from a kid being a Port Magpie junior.
Still he walks..???
The question is not about Shaun Burgoyne jumping a sinking ship..
The sooner the truth is revealed, the sooner a repair job can begin..
The only person at that club that has the balls to come out with the truth would be Mark Williams, as if nothing else, he calls a spade a spade..
Sadly he won't, as it is about him....
