After driving to Kent Town and Eastwood every morning this week, i rate the freeway system even more.
I'm finding it a lot easier to get around Adelaide than I did Melbourne in the 10 years I had there, and I can find
affordable parking close to the places I want to go.
Part of the problem I had in Melbourne is that I lived and worked in places the major roads didn't go, apart from the Burwood Highway.
I never used the tollways mainly because I would have been going where they went only occasionally if I'd had an e-tag, and when I checked last they absorbed your credit if you hadn't used it in a certain time frame. Driving from Bayswater North to Parkville between 5 and 6pm was Hell and took about 70 minutes - I did that about once a month.
One thing you learn in Melbourne is how to use alternative routes.
Thursday, I left the Adelaide CBD about 5.30 via Hutt Street, heading for the SE Freeway, noticed Glen Osmond Rd was chocka and people were piling up across the intersection - a very Adelaide thing - so I moved to the right lane and went straight down George St, Duthy St, across Wattle St, and down Fullarton Rd to Cross Rd and the freeway without any delay at all and met hardly any traffic...
