He has been a sesational cricketer for many years and deserved a better run than what he was given. Hat off the him for saying what many of other cricketers would have loved to have said. I hope he scores another 1000 run season and sticks it to the ACB. they need something stuck somewhere!!!!

All i see him saying is that he is a big crybaby who needs some attention. As for his comments about Tait, what a crock. Poor Taity confined to his hotel room. What does he expect? Because one bloke doesn't have a partner all the rest should spend 6 months or more every year away from their partner and or children? Hodge killed off his own career by criticising the selectors two years ago. He only has himself to blame.

I wonder if it ever occurred to him that perhaps the players who seemed to have "alliances" actually just left him out of things because they think he is a tosser?

Even though he scored a test double century, to me he never really looked like a test batsman.
He's only saying what many others have long suspected.
If there is a 50/50 call on a player, 9 times out of 10 the selectors will take the easy option and pick a NSW player.

A few recent examples, Beau Casson...............moves to NSW........hello test cap.
Hauritz.............proven to be not up to standard,, moves from QLD,, hello test cap.
If Hughes (who I hope does well) was playing for South Australia or Tassie, would he be getting selected so young to open in test cricket? I think not.
If Klinger was playing for NSW, would he get a gig ? Probably.

In BOOFS book, he writes " I just couldn't understand why I was making so many runs and not getting in the test side"
"I was told to make runs other than at the Adelaide Oval, and I was, yet bowlers who were only taking wickets at the SCG were getting picked for Australia"

Anyway, I agree in some parts with Hodge. Lehmann is a perfect example of what he is on about - scored an absolute mountain of runs before he was picked for Test cricket, selection which unfortunately came at the twilight of his career.

England has got it right in some respects - John Trott was in the form of his life in county cricket when he was plucked from there into the Test side to replace that sh*t truck Bopara. Don't have to be a genius to see how that gamble paid off...

Just because Hodge got 2/200 he reckons he's a walkup start for Australia. Him and Tait make a fine pair. Take some concrete pills, STFU, and go out and make more runs for Victoria.

I cant belive why you guys ( REB and RR ) don't think Hodge can bat. Has played 6 tests only averages over 55, has been the premier batsmen in shield cricket for the past 5 years. Reb will come back and say that he is a nicker and that you cant criticise the selectors. For starters if you bat three u might nick one too the slips every now and then, better than being bowled or LBW every time. And its no wonder evryone wants to move to NSW, Watson will be safe for somtime now, Hauritz was smart to move from QLD to NSW wont be long until Croswaithe is the Australian reserve keepr.

I think Hodge can bat but I wouldn't have him Baggy Green. Big difference. His test average supports the fact that he can bat but I reckon if he gets a gig we'll just end up with another Hussey. Hodge is darn lucky to get that fat average as he cashed in at Perth after he got dropped.

And let's face it, paying out the selectors is not a smart career move. It's like going up to your boss and calling him a dipshit. See where that gets you. Better players than Hodge have opened their mouths to the selectors and paid the price (Dean Jones and David Hookes come to mind).

Hodge is a victim of bad timing if anything. At his peak he would have made a fine test player but he seems to think he is owed by the selectors. Problem is, during this transitional phase of Australian Cricket the selectors are going to be looking at who will be playing for us for the next six or seven years....not the next six or seven tests.

Boof's name has been mentioned a couple of times in this thread and there was one player who WAS stiff. There is more talent in Boof's little finger than there is in Hodge's entire body. Hodge is serverely overrated.

Lining up with r_r and REB on this one. I'll never forget him saying once he was the only one who deserved to be picked for Australia. I have never liked him since and his sticking it up* the selectors gave me a moment of pure joy. He is a big mouth fool, none of the other players like him, sob sob sooky la la.

Surely that is the important point. Who did Lehmann think he should have been picked ahead of? Mark Waugh? Steve Waugh? Allan Border? Ricky Ponting? Those were the guys picked in the middle order at various stages of the 90s when Lehmann was trying to get in. And Hodge's spot is currently being held by Hussey and Clarke in the main, with North coming through now. You might say Hodge should have been in front of Hussey by the end of the Ashes (yes, I was one) but for the 2-3 years before? Not a chance.

Finally, we think there's some conspiracy but look at the protected players in the side. The guys who could have been dropped but held their spots. Leading into the 3rd and 4th tests the players we might have dropped were Hussey, Johnson and Siddle. And they could have been replaced by Clark, Hauritz, Hughes and Lee at various times. Funny the only tough calls they made were to leave a NSW player out of the side. Obiously very biased.

No doubt would be nice to see our players in there, but only if they deserve it. Tait is a rubbish test bowler, average one day bowler and decent 20/20 bowler at that level. Ferguson was given a real crack in the one day side when they might have gone to someone like Thornely, Klinger has a good 6 months and comes into consideration, while Manou could easily have been overlooked for a Paine or Hartley. All things considered I think the selectors have probably erred on the side of favouring SA if anything!
