I don't know who the players are, but pic 4 is definitely not Tim Evans and Craig Balme. And I think the photo taken of Bob Hank and the West Torrens players was either 1/4 time or 3/4 time, not after the game.

Apart from that, good photos.

Interesting to see the West guys running onto the ground through the crowd in 1954. When did they build the players' race at Adelaide Oval? Also interesting to see Geof Motley accepting the TS Hill Trophy in the members stand in 1965, not out on the ground.

The 1969 incident with Royce Hart always raises interesting comment. It's amazing how many people you meet who tell you they were at that game and saw Hart knocked out, taken off the ground, and he never took part in the match after that. This didn't happen of course, Hart stayed on and was Glenelg's best player with well over 20 possessions for the match. It's incredible how people remember it the other way.

I guess the memory plays tricks over time. Some people are still certain Graham Cornes took a mark and then kicked a goal after the siren to give Glenelg a 1 point victory in 1973. In fact, Cornes' goal gave Glenelg the lead, it was John Sandland who kicked the goal after the siren to give the Tigers a 7 point win.

I reakon you'll find it is mate ... I reakon it's the dust up they had late in the first quarter (for memory) when Balmey tried a handpass and Timmy smothered it, out of play ... He then ran back to let Balmey know all about it and they were into it again, North Western pocket

Awesome photos, thanks for putting us onto that LL!

Ive been wondering the last couple of years when I started taking serious photos myself if the photographer would actually die in sports with HDTV coming and it being so easy to take still photos off HDTV but I think its still an art and I hope still photographers continue on forever.

On a similar tangent I dropped my 3 photos off today at West Lakes that Im entering into the SANFL media awards.
They have 2 categories, one for action shot and the other for character shot.
Even though Gilly's mark looks better one of the criteria is clarity and the pic I took of the South bloke going up for a mark was crystal clear as they required them to be printed out to A3 size. Im also confident that they'll treat being published online as being published, mind you my Gill mark and Moorey shower got published to paper too.
Do I have a chance??

I love this Photo of Brian Faehse running out. For me it just captures the era. Ironically I think you'll find (IIRC) that at just before 1/2 time of this game there was a dust up between Port and West players that continued after the bell on the way to the changing rooms and even included a few supporters. Brian Faechse (once again IIRC) was at the centre of the ruckus. It was after this that underground player's races were installed.

Also I'm with you, I don't think that is Balme and Evans in the first photo. Reckon it might be Evans but not Balme.
The Hank photo wouldn't be after the game as they are too happy. Apparently they had a strong wind in the last qtr and were a good chance to win so chances are it's 3/4 time.

The photo of Port in 1965 also has a sense of irony as (once again according to legend and IIRC) they heckled the Sturt players on their way off. Mmmm didn't get a chance to do that again for a while. And apparently it really fired up the Sturt boys.

Could be wrong, but the player in pic 4 looks a little small to be Tim Evans...

Totally agree. There's no way known those two players are Balme and Evans.

Most definately is ... Clearly the bloke on top is Balmy and the hair do and the tip of number 5 underneath is Evans ... Watch the replay, look for the incident I mentioned above and I'll bet Umpire Hilton is right next to them ...

Apparently its a term favoured by the club for quite a long time, and was the preferred nickname for the club (when/if entering the AFL) going back some time as well.

As a Port supporter i'm not a fan of the term/nickname, but guess i'm stuck with it.

You can see winning has been a part of Erin Phillips life right from the start!

And pic 4 is definately Tim Evans. If you think it doesn't look like him, doesn't matter. Theres a number 5 on his back. So unless Port had two players with the same number.....
