Massive breeze out there today, both teams struggled with the conditions at times but overall Eagles just handled it better. The first quarter Eagles had the aid of the breeze and had a 5 goals to 2 lead at 1/4 from memory.

Second quarter West had a slowish start to the term but eventually got going and took the lead at the major break.

Premiership quarter was always going to be the key, if West stayed with the Eagles and only trailed by 2-3 goals then I would've given them the edge but they had a shocking quarter. Eagled led by 5 goals at the last break, too much of a gap for Westies to close. Last quarter Eagles got the first two goals to seal the game, West responded with 3 in a row but there was only going to be one winner.

The Eagles got so many goals from stoppages, in the end it won them the game. So many quick quicks from the packs, little snaps and their forwards all looked threatening.

Cicolella was good, and Passador and Grocke both had their moments. Allmond was good and Broadbent was pretty good, as was Petrenko.

For West Ezard tried real hard, Rowe was good, Bennett a real target in attack and Willits decided to fire in the last quarter when they needed him earlier. Dangerfield took a couple of superb grabs and won the hard ball. Michael Pettigrew though, is he interested?

According to a West fan, the only hard balls Cicolella can find are his own. Haha, three hard ball gets later in the third quarter (one resulting in a goal to Grocke) and we are on our way to a win. And finally, for the first time in 6 weeks, the third and fourth quarters of the match were both to the good of the gold, green and blue.

The strength of the breeze eariler in the match led me to believe the margin of 23 points was only break even. It could have been more, had Jarrad not accidentally smother a snap in the goalsquare from McGregor! McGregor was in the goalsquare with Passador with the strong north-westerley wind, but down back against it.

And it was, with West coming back to be just in front at half time. Our only goal in that quarter coming from Passador, who started it about 4 metres to the right of the goalpost, and swung back just inside.

The usual suspects for best players this year were at it again, Cica and Macca. Jarrad did make up for that though with his overall play. He was unlucky not to get a goal when the ball bounced back instead of forward in the goalsquare in the last. I am also still impressed with Adam Grocke and his chases on players when he hasn't got the ball.

One thing which I have never seen before until this match, was three Eagles players going up for the mark. Pass comes down with it, but the umpire called for a ball up? I thought that was only done when it was opposing players go for the mark, as what happened in the third?

Not me. Although the crowd wasn't bad for the League, I'd say close to 2,500.

Couldn't make it today. Only listened to the radio. Seemed like the Eagles played 3 good quarters of footy and a solid last half to be comfortable winners. Season over for Westies - we'll definitely be meeting North in the Elimination Final.

Good to see Powell and Treeby named best and 2nd best in the Ressies big win. Perhaps both will have a run in the league side next week.

Not quite Aerie, if West win their last two and North lose to South, West gets through.

I think they said it was 2300ish on the radio. Biggest crowd at Woodville Oval against West this decade.

im guessing most of those people were officials?

not sure that some of the players partners wouldve been outta bed that early on a sunday morning.....

fair dinkum reserves 8-30 on a sunday morning is a bit ordinary, would have to go straight from the pub to the game

Not bad spelly ... officially 2359

That is the largest Eagles v West crowd @ Woodville for quite some time.

Great to see so many kids and families there for the Kids Day festivities.

Eagles finished 2009 with a 9% rise in home match crowds this year
(not bad with 1191 & 1592 coming to the 2 South home games)

Spot on, Thiele. Whoever at the league made that decision should have been made to be at the ground at 7am.

Shows what they think of volunteers. They don't.
