NORTH Adelaide enters this weekend’s crunch match with West Adelaide with renewed confidence after an improved performance against Norwood last Friday night.
Needing a win against the Bloods to wrap up fifth spot on the ladder, the Roosters will look to continue the form which saw them dismantle the Redlegs 18.12 (120) to 8.10 (58) at the Parade.
North coach Daniel Healy said he was his pleased with his side’s endeavour in the victory, which ended a four-game losing streak.
``It’s good to be back playing a brand of footy that looks like it’s exciting and enjoyable and the players look like they’re enjoying it,’’ he said.
``People have a crack at us about playing too defensive, that’s (Friday’s performance) what we mean by defensive footy. Getting the ball back and then being able to score from it. ``What you saw there was how we want to play the game and we’ve been a fair way off it for a lot of the year.’’
While midfield trio James Allan, Rhys Archard and Matthew Wright were their usual dominant selves, the most pleasing performances came from youngsters Damian Cunningham and Daniel Stewart.
Cunningham kept Adelaide Crows forward Taylor Walker goal-less in the first half winning several one-on-one contests.
``He (Cunningham) is an outstanding character and he’s done that twice to Walker this year. He’s going to have a long career at the club and we’re rapt to have him,’’ Healy said.
Stewart was the most threatening forward on the ground all night kicking four goals.
Healy said the 199cm Port Adelaide Power rookie’s potential was limitless.
``He’s a classic. When he comes out with an attitude that he’s just going to have a crack he’s certainly good enough to play very well at SANFL level and who knows at the next level.
``It’s just that belief factor and hopefully tonight’s going to push him towards that.’’
As for Saturday’s clash at City Mazda Stadium, Healy said his side was more concerned about continuing its own form than ending West’s season.
``We’re probably just more worried about playing a brand of footy that shows improvement and that gives us some impetus that if we do make the finals, we’re not just making up the numbers.
``I’m just pleased to get the group turned around because it’s been a pretty down couple of weeks.’’
