Pete Smith or Pete Safralidis.

It would be a lil unfair if Pete Saf won, you should have to be able to kick a drop punt although Craig Griffths won three kicking front tumblers.

Surely another Berri player cant win it when they dont make the four and hardly win a game. If Saf wins it that makes 3 out of the last 4 years to Berri and they have hardly won a game - something not right if that happens.

Not really. You have to go all the way back to 1994 to find a year when the Whillas Medallist played in a premiership in the same year.
There have been quite a few instances of players winning the Whillas, but their team missing the finals.

1994 - Craig Griffiths: Waikerie 1st
1995 - Geoff Robertson: Loxton North 5th; Craig Griffiths: Waikerie 3rd
1996 - David Crutchfield: Loxton North 2nd
1997 - Nathan Tape: Waikerie 2nd
1998 - Damian Lister: Barmera 5th
1999 - Craig Griffiths: Waikerie 3rd
2000 - Dean Schumann: Renmark 4th
2001 - Robert Price: Berri - 3rd
2002 - Daniel Evans: Loxton - 3rd
2003 - Malcolm Greenwood: Loxton 2nd
2004 - Scott Palmer: Berri 4th; Jacob Selfe: Barmera 5th
2005 - Brett Exelby: Renmark 5th
2006 - Shayne Stevens: Waikerie 3rd
2007 - Mark Kruger: Berri 3rd
2008 - Dean Storic: Berri 6th
2009 - ?

Remember we are talking about umpires here. Don't expect them to think like all good observers of the game. Loxton have Pete Smith, Leigh Kruger, Nick Uren and more recently Shane Shubert competing for votes, as well as Portolesi, Fazekas etc.
In the past Nick Uren has not polled well and Leigh Kruger always gets less votes than expected- something to do with questioning certain decisions. Apparently our over sensitive men in white react to any criticism by putting a line through yor name if you don't agree with their interpretation. Votes equate to "good decision Greg".
That gives Pete Smith a real chance, plus he kicks goals. Umpires remember that. Then look to a Renmark or Barmera player.

If Evans does win the medal, Would he be the only one to win a Indy and RFL medal? if not, Who else has done this?

My old man won the indy medal years ago, back when it was called the B Grade comp and then won the mail medal in 72. The RFL still haven't acknowledged it because back then they had the count back system and even though he had the same votes as the winner, who was Julian Nickolai, he lost it on a countback system. I have his mail medal at home which was given to him a few years ago, but the RFL hasn't been prepared to give him a whillas medal. When I bought it up a few years ago with the RFL, their response was that it was too expensive to do up another medal to give to him. I think we are the only league in country SA who have not acknowledged past winners who were classed as coming runner up on the old countback system.

Strange, you would think if they had to get 10 or so made up for previous people in the same situation, it wouldn't be as expensive.

Who knows. I'm not too fussed about the medal side of it, but I think they should amend their records and include him as a joint winner. Just my opinion, but I am pretty biased on the subject, because it is my old man. He doesn't give a toss about it either, but it should be recognised IMO.

I dont think Goof Smith has received a retrospective medal from 1979 when he lost on countback from Ken Roberts.
I'm reading a book about anti-gravity. I can't put it down.

I don't think the hardware is an issue, but there is no doubt that the RFL should update there records. Perhaps your club delegates should take to the next meeting?? must be a meeting soon with finals so close!!
Maybe CN and DW could stirr the pot
