Roy Laird actually admitted last year that Glenelg/Sturt had more talent than Centrals last year. So they focused on other areas, and still won the flag.

As for the GF attendance, as long as the Eagles or West aren't involved, then you should get 30K+ regardless of who plays.

Talent only gets you so far though, at the end of the day it pressure and willingness to get to the contest that wins finals. Which is why Centrals are the finals specialists.

LOL at not even mentioning South with respect to GFs...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

That'd be a different topic AB.
Try starting a "Lowest Possible Grand Final Crowd" thread and the board would be pickled with South references.
While on that, I think that the lowest possible crowd would be for West vs Eagles, in stormy weather. My guess is that perhaps 14,000 would attend.
I think South would attract too many neutrals if they made a grand final, just like the way everybody jumped on the Woodville bandwagon when they made the finals in the mid 80's.

I was mainly referring to the GF sides this decade, which was why I left South out.

I agree. If South made a GF there would be a heap of neutral supporters attending. There'd be a heap of Panther supporters come out of the woodwork too...

Must say in our 2006 finals appearances it was suprising how many South supporters are out there. I just never see them.......

I'll still get out there and support them no matter what......I know the regular faces I see out there and those who are "part-time" supporters ....
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

Ironically I had more fun throughout the day in 1998 than 2002. The after match function was a different story.

The SANFL are the biggest losers here, no Norwood, no Port, no real outside interest.

Centrals were involved in the only 2 45,000+ grand final crowds since the afl.
They played Port in both of those grand finals, yet when Glenelg and Sturt (and Norwood) played Port in grand finals post-afl, they were unable to crack 45,000.

It was a lot easier to get tickets for 95 and 96 than it was the Port v Sturt GF, I can tell you.
Pre Power crowds were a lot better especially for matches involving the Magpies.

Perhaps if Norwood and Port stopped living in the past they'd play in modern grandfinals .

Of course Port Power joining the AFL in 1997 would have had no impact on attendances in the SANFL. ;)

The days of 45,000 crowds at SANFL GFs are long gone ... no matter who plays.
