EG 3/180

10 COOK another failure v AU
24 COLLINGWOOD good player of spin, but ordinary when he faces a 4 prong pace attack
72* BELL his first 25 runs were the luckiest first 25 he might have played or ever played
3* TROTT survived a torrid time against Marcus North ...

EG in the box seat
AU need to bat well and long in thier first innings as this pitch is gunna disintigrate

Not out also, Massive No Ball. Forgot to mention that this time unlike last test where you were quite critical of the umpire missing a no ball.

Agree on Pontings captaincy, Amazingly stupid to have North bowling while Trott comes out to bat for the first time in a test match.

That is what this game will come down to i agree Mal. This pitch will turn miles in a days time, it is astounding Hauritz isn't playing i think the Aussies made a big mistake not picking him in this game. As flat as the track is, the surface is breaking up already and giving some real encouragement to the spinners.

Swann will have a big say in the outcome of this game i think.

Still think the 4 quicks will do the job

4/185 Currently.

Prior and Trott at the crease with Prior looking uncomfortable against Siddle.

If we can have them 6/7 for 300 at the end of the day i think we would take the honours. The pitch is very flat.

They way there going theyll be lucky to get 200 for the day. And thats even if we get flintoff to the crease.

Aussies definiely on top at the moment IMO

South African J.Trott has a massive chance to make a name for himself here. ENG in a bit of trouble (as he hits a cracking 4) in the ASHES in the 5th test. no better stage set for him.
could we see a MC or MN style of debut? i hope not! but his form is good (then a loose shot that nearly gets caught at cover, getting the leading edge)

Great bowling by Mitch to get Prior. Not just the slower ball, but also the lead up balls!

ENG at drinks in the extended last session are 5/242 off 68.

trott 32* flintoff 4*

WOEFUL SHOT BY FLINTOFF.
Gone for 7 caught behind off Mitchs bowling.
When people see replays, you may think it is a lucky wicket to Mitch, but he has bowled some good short ones to flintoff and had him trapped on the crease. Threw the wide one up there and the overrated cricketer chased it and edged it.

ENG now 6/247

Lots of pressure building on Trott now

North bowling to Trott.
Trott charges
Flicks to the leg side.
Katich traps it.
Throws at keepers end.
Hits.
Magical Run out.
Trott gone for 41.
Well batted on debut.

England 7/268

North is getting some bounce, grip and turn. Looking good for the Aussies so far on a batsmans friendly pitch.

Not going with Hauritz could come back to haunt us though

That was an excellent piece of fielding by Katich. Ponting seriously messed up not picking Hauritz though.

That was possibly the worst cricket comment I have seen from you CoverKing. Bell blocked one in the first session that went for four, it was always going to be a 300 day unless we bowled them out. I reckon with this pitch and that outfield as I saw it last night that the par score for four sessions would be 500.

Hauritz has bowled better than many thought he was capable of in England but the fact remains that he had the chance to bowl us to victory at Cardiff and didn't get the job done. That is why he was not selected for this test.

It remains to be seen whether Ponting/the selectors have messed it up as you say but with eight wickets on the first day you'd have to say so far so good.

I was a bit stunned that we kept North bowling while Trott was fresh at the crease, it wouldn't have hurt to bring another quick on for a couple of overs for maximum pressure. Getting off of the mark was a huge pyschological barrier for him, he looked alright.
