Bit of a surprise, but I honestly think Villa will be pants this year.

IMO, they'll be overtaken by sides like West Ham, Spurs, Citeh and potentially even Sunderland who have all strengthened over summer.

Villa have lost Laursen and Barry, which is their spine, while Young and Carew could still possibly be on their way out. Even if those two stay, Villa will be a far cry from what they were last year IMO.

2 very close shaves for Utd there. Jerome is underrated IMO. I wonder why he wsn;t picked up when Brum last went down?

Class goal by Rooney earlier though.

Another interesting comment made earlier on was that last year, of the 60 possible points UTD could have taken from sides finishing in the bottom half, they took 58. That is unreal.

They finished above a side that only lost twice for the season, so it was always going to take something special like the stat mentioned above to win the title.

Well, Pretty crappy effort by the Reds first up, looked better/busier in the 2nd half when they finally got Babel off .. Will take a few scrapes out of the game and despite an unlucky non-call late in the game truth be told we were probably flattered by that scoreline.

The Benni hip n shoulder on Voronin or the handball shout?

I thought the hip n shoulder could very easily have been a pen. Silly thing to do really. But the handball shout was definitely not there IMO.

The Lucas dummy spit and handbags was funny. As if you stand up to the Hudd.

Yep the Voronin hip and shoulder, definitely no drama's with the other ... I thought Sammy Lee's send off was funnier

I reckon she'll be a much tighter comp this year, so losing first up is obviously far from ideal, especially given we have a lot of work to do to hit some decent form, the chemistry looked all wrong tonight in Xabi's absence and you don't get a lot of time to fix these things.

The Sammy Lee thing was funny.

Agree on Alonso. Liverpool now look a bit light on, especially with injuries. Lucas' shortcomings are well documented and Babel gave nothing today. Surely Benayoun has to start every week. He's a class act. Still not sure about Voronin either.

It's a long time until the Italian starts too.

On a brighter note, I thought Man U also looked a shadow of their former selves.

decent game tho at the lane , was interesting to watch and seeing gerrards penalty i think when he slotted it and then had another kick when the ball rebounded i think he was aiming for the crowd as they were letting him have it before he took the penalty but it rebounded off the frame work.

There was a bit in that actually. The crowd was giving it to him over his affray charge, singing 'you're supposed to be in jail' and 'self defence, you're avin a larf'. Apparently Gerrard did initially see the funny side. He then took a corner and a small element of the crowd went overboard giving it to him with the 'wanker' chant and obviously got to him, so he hoofed the ball back after scoring the pen.

I think the initial songs are quite funny and probably done in jest, but it's pretty disrespectful to go overboard on Stevie G. He's a legend and all those fans will probably be kissing his arse at the world cup next year.

It's not like he's Sol or Barton.

United were not at their best but they are notorious slow starters. Could be an interesting season, Chelsea are still favourites but they had to come from a goal down against Hull at the Bridge. Injuries in defence are a real worry but Rooney was awesome and Valencia will be a good signing. Evra is still a star too.

THE BEAST JENSEN!!!!!!! LEGEND!!!!

Saves a penalty from Carrick. Still 1-0 up over United! What a great effort. Hold them out boys!

Robbie Blake's stirke was as crisp and clean as you could want. Hit it beautifully.

Spurs up 3-1 over Hull. Weird game. Hull showing determination, but they play terrible football. Defoe on FIRE for Spurs with 2 great goals.

surely Brum will get one past David James at some stage!!!

im guessing it could be a big night if burnley hold on for a highly unlikely draw or win

good luck, but credit must go to birmingham who on sunday really pushed Man Utd and have left them wide open for a loss

Burnley will go mental if the Clarets can hold on. I just hope that if they do, we get another drunken message from JTC.

Agree on Brum though, they pressed ManU to the limit on the weekend.

phillips will have to come on at some stage, im guessing around 70mins if score is still 0-0

this is a must win game at home for birmingham, and if they cant score with David James in goals, then there is something very wrong
