It seems pretty clear the WWTFC and SANFL have given up on Thebby.

If the club was interested in making a go of Thebarton, they would demand a strong drawing club and make some effort in promoting the game. When they first went back to Thebby they had good crowds (novelty factor), but the facilities were terrible (i.e. they didn't even have a scoreboard that you could see).

Whilst they have since improved the facilities to a certain extent (i.e. at least you can now see the scoreboard and time clock) they haven't put any effort in to promotion. They only had the northern gates open yesterday. People were leaving the ground at the southern end by slipping through a hole in the fence FFS. That is a disgrace.

The surface is fantastic, the concrete terraces are fantastic, the stands look fantastic - it is all there for the Eagles or SANFL to make a go of it. In cooperation with the SAAFL, they should do up the lights so the Amateur league can use it to maybe play junior night games.

The Eagles could then use the oval once or twice a year and make it an occasion and hopefully garner some more support outside the 800 people that are always at Woodville. There is opportunity if done properly, but the Eagles just see it as a cost because they were relying on the novelty factor to continue through the years when they had three games there, but weren't putting in any effort to attract new people.

Some imagination and clever programming and the WWTFC, SANFL and SAAFL might even make some money out of it. I'd hope and expect the Eagles to be leading the way as they potentially have the opportunity to get the most out of it.

it has its advantages being good pub across road which i go but in saying that if at Pecker Pk my money would of been spent yesterday in clubrooms. - if at Pecker Pk yesterday I wouldnt of gone. Yesterday I think i counted more Glenelg supporters around ground than Souths!! LOL

I think its the SANFL that wants us to play there.I have heard whispers that last year the club lost $5000 a game and the old CEO said enough was enough.Somehow we are playing one game instead of three.
The SANFL wants home games there but wont cover the cost.
The SANFL wont pay people to open and man the gates talk to ozzie (Eagles raffle guy ;) )next week get his reaction.
The SANFL are great at making decisions for clubs but have short arms and deep pockets where the local clubs are concerned. But appear to have bucket loads of cash to throw at Port Adelaide Power.
Leave Thebarton to the both the past and the saafl unless the SANFL will fund all games there !! I bet if the SANFL paid for the entire day they would have everything up and running .Then again they'd just move the game to Woodville . ;)

Zero for mine. It's a slap in the face for Woodville fans who seem to have given up much more than Torrens did. At least they still have the home ground.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

It was great being at Thebarton yesterday. The setting and the oval itself are superb, and it beats Woodville hands down in terms of location, tradition, atmosphere and most importantly the potential to draw good crowds for the right matches. I agree with Aerie that the Eagles need to take advantage of this opportunity and play some feature matches there, and do some promotion. We all know what a terrible record Woodville Oval has for drawing crowds (especially considering the Eagles' great on-field success) and that is never going to change. We need to make the most of our linkage with Thebarton, and I am sure our new CEO will recognise that.

MMM Woodville kept home ground Woodville is first part of team name. All bar one of the current coaching staff started their SANFL carreers at Woodville.
Yep Woodville are hard done by
Kepp trolling Barto at least neither Thebarton or woodville is covered in dog turds.
Perhaps as ozzie suggested yesterday what other ovals have WWT WT or woodville played home games at .
1 Football Park
2 Hindmarsh oval
Should we also play home games on these two ovals there'd be a bloody big cry from every other team if we played 3 at footy park!!!
Next it will be send west back to the show grounds !!!
