Don't be suprised to see Timmy Ginever finding his way back into the commentary box, whether it is AFL or SANFL, time will tell...

A good article on Tim from the Messenger online...

OUTGOING Port Adelaide coach Tim Ginever says he does not want his resignation to distract the playing group in its final three games of the season.

Speaking just hours after the club announced his four-year reign as coach would end next month, Ginever said he was determined to leave the club on a winning note.

‘’I don’t want this to affect anything we’re trying to achieve in the next three weeks,’’ he told Messenger Community News.

‘’I don’t want any talk of goodbye. We’ll put the beers on hold until after the last game.’’

Ginever said he was ‘’disappointed’’ with how his time at Alberton had ended, but he knew a few weeks ago that this season would be his last as coach.

‘’At the end of last year we came to a mutual agreement that if we didn’t go up the ladder, I’d be out the door,’’ he said.

‘’And once we weren’t a mathematical chance, I knew I had to move on.

‘’The club has to get in the race (for a new coach) like Norwood and the Eagles are.’’

Port Adelaide released a statement this morning that said the Round 23 match against Sturt would be Ginever’s last as coach.

It stated the decision for Ginever to resign was a ``mutual one’’ and was announced to the players at training on Thursday night.

Ginever is a legend at Alberton Oval, having played 314 games and won seven premierships with the Magpies.

He also served as club captain and started as an assistant coach in 2005 before holding the main job for the past four years.

However, after making the finals last year, season 2009 has been one to forget. The Magpies are in eighth spot on the ladder with just four wins for the season.

Port Adelaide Magpies president John Firth said the club wanted to ``sincerely thank’’ Ginever for his ``tireless coaching efforts’’.

``Especially this year introducing 13 debutant players to League football which is by far the most in the SANFL competition,’’ Firth said.

The club will start advertising for a new coach immediately.

I agree, a bloody nice guy, now that he's not destroying Us on the oval anymore. Seriously, he is a top bloke & good luck to him.

Ginever only played in 7 premierships. I always knew he was a poor mans Matthew Slade.

Dont let the door hit your ego on the way out.

You obviously don't know Tim UF, to write sh!t like that.
I'm not sure if you've ever played the game pal, if you did i'd presume you struggled, you find it hard to acknowledge a true gentleman of the game, to me i find you a pathetic judge of chartacter.
I'm a big fan of Timmy, his coaching didn't end like his playing days but he's still the same decent, honest & competitive person i known.

NM, UKF's post wasn't worth a reply, says more about the poster than the subject matter. Anyone on here with a skerrick of football knowledge knows the character and contribution of Tim to the real Port Adelaide Footy Club.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Well said NM ... as I posted earlier, I'm sure he'll stay at one of the Port clubs in some capacity.

The man was an inspirational leader on the field ... one of many moments that come to mind is his efforts to get Port back into the game in the '94 GF when the Eagles looked home after the first quarter. He did this many times.

There was no-one more competitive than Timmy, and the man personifies Port Adelaide. Now that's coming from a Bays supporter who has no problem acknowledging the man on his merits.

Also spot on with whether the troll actually played the game ... the words speak for themselves.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Ginever's team played today like he used to, with lots of sniping cowardly behind the play incidents.

But that's ok, he smiles a lot so he must be a great guy. I must admit I'm not sure where all this Ginever love has sprung from recently, growing up he was behind only Margaret Thatcher, Pol Pot and Stephen Clifford as hate figures in our house.

Bye bye Timmy. :D

I played football for years for many football clubs NM. Just another well researched theory down the drain NM . We all know you Port fans are such deep thinkers. As an opposotion supporter I thought Timmy did a great job. Good to see his boys paid him the ultimate respect by putting in another subpar performance yesterday.
