Big Phil wrote:This game is going to be used to help promote the 'Close the Gap' campaign with help from Oxfam Australia and the 2 clubs.

'Sturt and West Adelaide will join together in a common cause to promote the Close the Gap campaign and call for the life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Staight Islander people and other Australians to be closed within a generation.

This is the second year Sturt has thrown their support behind this important campaign and believes it's an important part of their Clubs calendar.

By promoting the Close the Gap campaign, both clubs are showing support to their Aboriginal players, past and present, their families and their communities and they are calling on the South Australian football loving public to get behind the campaign and show their support too'.

Great work by both clubs to promote this, in particular Sturt footballer and Close the Gap Campaign representative Josh Cubillo. Hopefully Josh will be a guest on the Thursday Night League Teams Show this week on 1197am 5RPH so we will be able to hear more then about it.

Nice work Sturt and West! :-bd

Sturt is a proud club time to move from Unley oval to facilities that are up to league standard.

Well that was certainly a hit and run Feung...

Sturt is a very proud club indeed. For many years now they have been operating on the smell of an oily rag yet have participated in ten out of the last twelve finals series (soon to be 11 out of 13) winning a premiership in 2002. They are proud of where they come from and although Unley Oval has it's obvious limitations, it is home. The playing surface is good, the catering is reasonable and you can get a pie and a beer. For me, that is all I want and to be honest if I wanted my match day experience to be 'cushy' I would reactivate my SANFL membership and go and sit with the 40,000 Lemmings at AAMI every second week.

There is nothing wrong with Unley Oval. You are welcome to join us this coming Saturday, the weather forecast is for a fine day and the footy will be of a high standard. I can't guarantee you a West victory of course but I am certain you will have a great afternoon at the footy.

Other clubs such as yours and South, to use two examples, have cracking facilities but I dare say both sets of supporters would swap those nice clubrooms for sustained success in a heart beat.

Play on.

Thurstans is an out for the power, so could play for sturt tomorrow. Probably wont happen though as Surjan and Hartlett are in doubt.

I think he enjoys hearing about our love for Unley.
Which is fine by me, I welcome any reason to once again reiterate my love for our sacred turf with open arms.
Unley Oval is a masterpiece! The legends that played on that oval, that returned with premiership medallions, that performed before those stands and terraces, and those that have passed on are forever remembered with their names enmeshed as those greats that called Unley "Home".
There is no grander sporting stadium anywhere in Australia IMO.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
