PORT Magpies senior coach Tim Ginever will retire from coaching at the end of the SANFL minor round, it has been revealed.

In a statement issued by the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club, it says the decision was a mutual one between Ginever and Club’s Board, with his resignation coming into effect at the completion of the minor round.

Ginever made his announcement to the team at training on Thursday night.

Ginever is a former club captain who played 314 for the Magpies, including seven premierships.

He began his coaching career as an assistant coach in 2005, then as senior coach for the past four seasons.

Irrespective of who you support, one of footballs genuine good blokes..
Got the most out of what he had as a player..
No so great as a coach..
No doubt will be back in the media soon....

Comes across as an excellent bloke, and agreed Jabber very funny and seemingly approachable ... Hope he stays involved with footy in whatever capacity, for a long time to come.

He is a good bloke. When I was getting to games for the ressies on a weekly basis before i moved to the country, he'd come up and say gday and have a chat for 5 minutes during the ressies, and i dont know him personally. Very approachable, always with a smile on his face. As was said, got the very best out of himself as a player, a superb leader on the field, unfortunately couldnt get the best out of the teams he had the last couple of years, but hopefully, like Ebert in the mid 80s, the leg work he has done the last couple years in playing kids can bear fruit in the not too distant future.

Never met Tim, but people tell me he's a good bloke. Trevor Hill is a good bloke as well. Neither could command total effort from their players. Have we reached the stage where players simply don't respect good blokes as coaches?

i actually think that with recruits from interstate (this is generalising) (this also applies to every single club) that have never heard of ginever, hill, simmons etc etc until they arrived in the state have very little respect for these blokes, obviously fuller & laird are the exceptions

Barrie Robran's the nicest bloke I've ever met and he stunk as a coach.
Times might change though, traditionally you've had to have a bit of mongrel/arsehole about you but with Generation Y or whatever the hell they're called apparantley you've got to nurture, train and be nice to them to get results, hopefully Generation Z brings things back to normal.
I know I played my best football when we had a very loud coach who would stand on the sidelines and abuse the living daylights out of me!

One of the worst things you can say about a coach is that he's a nice bloke.

I'm sure Port Adelaide whether it be the Magpies or Power will look after the man ... he bleeds black and white and has been a very loyal servant of the club for many years.
