Every club deserves the chance to play at Thebby wedgie. South are the last remaining club yet to play the Eagles at Thebby since footy's been back there.

Exactly. Next year I hope to see two matches at Thebarton, Glenelg as the opener and one of North or Port as the other.

I could not agree more, Wedgie and Spelly. Very poor programming by the Eagles to have just the South match at Thebarton this season. Hopefully that will be rectified in 2010 - more matches at Thebarton would definitely boost our home game attendances. Night matches at Thebby in the future would be great, too.

Since when do the Eagles do the programming - I believe the SANFL draw up the fixture. If you want to blame someone blame the SANFL.

Why dont you blame Clay Sampson, he has taken the brunt of things for South so far this year.

I think eaglesfan is being a bit harshly treated as the club's do put in a "wish list" to the SANFL in regard to programming, of course depending on which club you are that may or may not make a difference.

Good point and one I hadn't considered, I'm probably coming more from the angle that I'd like to see more games there and if that's not possible higher profile games there as if its a lower profile game and there's a poorish crowd the SANFL will just use that as ammo for not playing further games there which would be a real shame.

But, the bottom line is since 2005:
9 matches at Thebarton: Average of 3092
38 matches at Woodville: Average of 2259

Sorry 2 things against those figures one of those games was a first game back and people came out of the woodwork .One was an anzac day match against Centrals .

For me rather play at woodville even though I'm an old Torrens guy .But I go to where the games at so I'll be there.Interesting I've heard its hard for the club to play there as everything has to be taken .And I've been there earlier enough to watch wiring be put into the coaching area!!!

Two games a year at Thebby would be good. 1 early and 1 at this time. A little biased, but it is a great venue to watch the footy at. Obviously the Eagles have a great set up at Woodville (the best part being the clubrooms at the northern end) but IMO it lacks the atmosphere of the traditional suburban ground which Thebby has. Having said that, when I have little tackers to take to the footy, I'll probably appreciate the grassy hills at Woodville.

The average with those two matches taken out is 2579. However, then you have two of those against West - both of those matches had crowds of 1313 and 1581.

I think it was mentioned earlier in the year that there is a significant cost to the club to setup facilities at Thebarton such that the game is non-profitable or a loss - therefore 1 game per year is sufficient in my opinion. Maybe once/if the facilities are improved by the current tenants such that the operating costs for a game there are reduced, then it might be realistic to consider more games per year.

If money is not an issue, then I think you would still only want to play 1 or 2 games per year at Thebarton. I love the ground and attended my first ever game there but ultimately our home ground is "Fortress Woodville" so playing at Thebarton only once per year will make it a special event and boost crowds. Making it too frequent will just make it like any other game.
