Hmm no Bode, Rudolph, Sherwood, Lally and introduced a new style of play, and we are currently in a better position than what we were this time last year...

I'll take Rubbers over Norman anyday
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Was talking to a mate about this the other night in the hour trip out to Galwer for basketball...

I think the coach of the year, to this point, has to be Mark Mickan based simply on the fact that the Tigers are on top of the ladder (and a couple of valid points made by am Bays). Cases could be made for Norman, Laird and even Collins but Mickan for me to this point in time. The coach of the year surely has to to be the Premisrship coach, so time will tell on that I guess.

For me, the following Centrals guys would have to be considered. Of course the side would not be decided until the season is over and we don't know who is going to step up in the last few rounds. I'll try and pick a squad of 30 to pick a side from to this point in the season as well, I'm sure there will be a couple of obvious non-selections, but it will be a hard task I reckon, especially with on-ballers.

FROM CENTRALS:

Chad O'Sullivan
Scott Dutshcke
Brayden O'Hara
Ian Callinan

MY TEAM OF THE YEAR TO NOW:

FF: C.O'Sullivan B.Chambers B.Warren
HF: J.Ezard D.White T.Gum
CL: B.O'Hara J.Allan B.Murray
HB: B.Murphy R.Ferguson M.Broadbent
FB: L.Panozzo C.Ah Chee M.Coad

1R: T.Cranston R.Archard B.Zorzi

INT: (from) J.Meiklejohn, T.Allen, N.Lower, I.Callinan, M.Wright, R.Kirkby, S.Dutschke, K.McGregor, J.Sheedy, B.Kane, B.Davies, L.Crane

I know what you are saying Deja, but this far into the season, we would have a fair idea of who has been the better players in the comp this season and it's fun to try and pick a team from so many talented footballers.

Whilst I agree with you that Mills has had a great year am Bays, I think Corey Ah Chee and even Yves Sibenaler would slot into full back ahead of Mills. Most Bays fans would agree that Mills had a slow start to the year, had that week off for striking an "unknown" player and has progressively got better as the season passes. This is of course all speculative and just IMHO, no doubt there is a case for others as well.

If Mills continues to play this way over the next few seasons, he will no doubt take over mantle as probably the best full back in the league, especially once Ah Chee and Sibenaler hang up the boots. His time will come, no doubt about that, it is probably a bit hard for him to come into the league in his first season and domiante (such as say Luke Crane and Ian Callinan did) enough to get a spot in a 'Team of the Year".

*chuckle*

I'd hardly call keeping the reigning Ken Farmer medalist to zip in rd 1 and then keeping Waterhouse goalless in rd 2 a "slow start to the year". I am not aware of any Bays fans complaining about a slow start by Mills to this season.

So you'd pick a player who's missed chunks of the season to injury over one who has played all bar one? OK. Mind you Ah Chee has been good but he has also played at CHF where as Mills has been FB all year.

And on the injury front that is why I wouldn't have Ty Allen in the side. Hasn't played enough good games having missed the first four. He has been good recently but after missing four games he took a while to get into the season

For the record despite my comments above on Rubbers, I do agree with Centurion and Bayman, coach of the year should be the premiership coach, period.

In the spirit of put up or shut up and also in acknowledgement that most of Phils side is pretty good,

FF C O'Sullivan B Chambers R Kirkby
HF J Ezard D White T Gum
CL B O'Hara B Zorzi B Murray
HB L Pannozzo R Ferguson M Broadbent
FB B Murphy W Mills M Coad

1R J Meiklejohn J Sheedy J Allen

INT T Cranston, I Callinan (too good a player to leave despite the games he's missed), S Dutschke

Apologies to B Warren, C Ah Chee, B Davies, R Archard, K McGregor, M Wright and P Thomas (if he's played the full season he'd be a definate) but only allowed three on the bench

You make a couple of valid points re Mills am Bays and maybe it was just a perception of mine that he hasn't exactly dominated from full back this year was reason enough for me not to find room for the former Brisbane player in my line up. I did toss up Warren and Kourkby in the forward pocket but must admit I'm suprised you have Cranston on the pine and not starting first ruck am Bays.

Your points about good games on Chambers (certainly has the points on him, as do ALL Glenelg full backs to play on Chambo !!) but surely on two or three very good games, compared to Ah Chee or Sibenaler's consistancy this season, would mean Millsy is 3rd in line. Ah Chee has played games in the forward line, but there surely isn't a better full back in the competition that you can guarentee you will get a contest everytime and his disposal is not at all questionable.

Again, this is all just a matter of opinion, and naturally we will agree to disagree, but I had a look at the stats from Wayde Mills over the course of the season to date and compared them to the opposition full forward. It makes for pretty even reading, perhaps slightly in favour of the opponents key forward. Mills has averaged about 6.9 disposals this season, including a couple of 1 to 4 touches games, while his direct opponent full forward have averaged about 7.6 disposals and kicked about 2.5 goals per game, including 5 in a quarter (Havelberg on ANZAC Day) and 6 against the Eagles (Nick Salter).

Would it be fair to say that if a poll was ran (of ALL supporters, not just Bays fans ;) ) to ask who would you prefer out of Ah Chee and Mills for a full back in the 'Team of the Year' that Corey may just come out in front. Again, I'm not denying the fact that Mills has been good this year and has been the perfect replacement for the loss of Sherwood / Rudolph, I just think he has had a very honest season for the Bays without being a standout defender of the competition.
