Glenelg's AFL listed players

Postby Harry the Horse » Tue Aug 11, 2009 6:00 pm

Reckon you can forget about seeing Salopek play for the Bays in the SANFL finals. He's quite keen to play but needs a shoulder operation at end of season and Port's likely to send him in for surgery as soon as their season is over. Don't know if anyone's got any mail on Josh Carr but I've heard he'd be quite keen to play. Hip could be only problem.
Poses the question though, if Port won't let Sal play for Bays in finals, not much point playing him in the league team any more.

I think Sal will be back with the Power this weekend, and will stay there if they make the finals anyhow....

Carr ? Not so sure, hopefully he plays for us.

SANFL clubs basically have no choice with AFL listed players.

If they are available for SANFL selection you must play them. If you don't, then they can be transferred to another SANFL at a (near) moments notice.

This has happened a few times ... ie. Ryan Willits moved from the Bays to Westies when he was on Port's AFL list.

The Bays' relationship with the AFL teams is good I believe, so I'm sure they'll work it all out.

In any case there's a good chance Sal will be back with Port this week anyway.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

getting into the business end of the season, if we were to have AFL players that werent going to be available during the finals then they can play in the reserves and if the AFL clubs dont like that then they can move the players on

Couldn't agree more MT79. It is unrealistic of Port to expect Mickan to play one of their blokes in our team at the pointy end of the season if we aren't going to have him in September.
I understand the interchange agreement and if they want to yank a player to another club, they're welcome to but I'm sure it wouldn't come to that.
As for Sal playing at the Power this week, he may well do but I'm not convinced he deserves the recall.
Based on what I've seen the last couple of weeks, he's got a lot of ball but his use is not yet back to his high standards I wouldn't have thought.
Here's hoping Tommy Logan gets a run with us though!

We will have players deserving of spots miss out if we get all our AFL players for Finals but I think we can cover them with the blokes that have done the job for us throughout the year.
(Sellar, Douglas, Carr, Salopek, Logan, Meyer)

I think we could gurantee Sellar, Meyer, Logan as they appear to be injury free with ????? over availability of Carr and Salopek carrying.

With Grima guranteed to be back for finals and Hinge a strong possibility of playing some part we have the stocks to put a good side on the field without AFL players so any will just be an added bonus to make us even stronger.

I'm sure every club that makes finals will have to play the waiting game on AFL clubs to advise who is available. I see the Eagles having a bigger issue than the Bays as they have had during the season with AFL players in and out unsettling them.

The Bays have done an exceptional job of balancing their AFL players this year, North haven't had that problem and yet we've been awful, normally its the teams that are chopping and changing that struggle a bit but Glenelg have shown how to do it this year as have Central in the past to a lesser degree.
With those players coming back they'll be a very hard side to stop, you've just got to hope the Crows get knocked out asap but even if they don't you'll still obviously have a very competitive unit.

My personal opinion* is that the only one we wont have will be Salopek for reasons identified above.

It is good that the time when both Toddy and Hingey will be available is when the Power's (Grima) and Crows' (Hinge) seasons will hopefully finish so if players are pulled from the finals we have ready made quality replacements.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
