Rnd 20 - Port v Norwood @ Alberton Preview (Sat 15/8)

Postby Big Phil » Mon Aug 10, 2009 12:33 pm

Both sides are coming off very dissapointing losses and seasons for that matter, with of course the winner of this contest gaining a bonus of $20,000 as put up by Gordon Pickard.

Norwood are showing some improvement and discipline under Jarrod Cotton, while Tim Ginevar continues to have pressure on his position as senior coach because of poor results on field. Norwood had a couple of costly injuries from the weeknd to Doyle and Trotter and if they don't play, will be big blows for the Legs.

I might tip a bit of an upset here with Port getting up over their traditional rivals, by say 2 goals.

ALSO NOTE THIS GAME IS NOW BEING PLAYED ON SATURDAY 15th, NOT SUNDAY 16th AS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED

Upset? Norwood have lost 6 out of last 7, which includes their last vs the magpies, and its at alberton.
You should also note that there is no such thing as an upset when it comes to Norwood v Port matches, no matter where both sides are on the ladder.

As well as the $20K both teams will be playing for the Gallagher/Williams cup for season 09 with the score at 1-1.

I've got a little $20 side bet with Gordon P. Looking forward to taking his money.

Question for Port and Norwood fans, do you place any value in the Williams-Gallagher Cup?

obviously its no thomas seymour cup but its kinda nice to down the old enemy.

(see the ashes when both australia and england were down - ripping contests with some bragging rights on the end)
always forgive your enemies...nothing annoys them so much

Perhaps they could rename it the Macca cup after Norwoods past champion player/coach and Port's future coach! ;)

Just a rumour 2 little birdies whispered to me on Sunday, I too don't put much in it as per most coaching rumours at this time of the year. No need to roll your eyes up at me Boonster!

Do I value it from game to game and hope we win it? Not really, no.

Do I value the recognition of the two great families that have been involved with the two great clubs and the history assosciated with them? Yes, very much so.

I didn't mean any disrespect to the families - I'd never play down the contributions of either, I personally just don't see the point or value in the cup.

If any Port or Norwood player couldn't find the motivation to play the other, I'd suggest their life-span would be short at their club.

Similarly members and/or supporters don't need any other incentive to win these battles.

It has little relevance compared to Thomas but I'd rather have it than not have it.
