Rnd 20 - Eagles v South @ Thebarton Preview (Sat 15/8)

Postby Big Phil » Mon Aug 10, 2009 12:24 pm

The one and only game of SANFL football at Thebarton Oval this weekend should be a pretty one sided affair with the Eagles hosting the very dissapointing Panthers, who are of course sitting at the foot of the ladder with just the 1 win.

On paper, the Eagles shoudl win comfortably and they may have a few handy players to bring back into the line up with possibly Salter and Broadbent from AFL duties while Mark Passador made a welcolme return in the reserves with 8 goals.

At this stage, I would say the Eagles by 8-10 goals.

Despite Souths recent form, I am looking forward to going to this match and think its great to see a game being held at Thebarton Oval. The venue is steeped in SANFL history and it is a truly magnificent venue to watch SANFL footy!

I wish it was on a sunday so those West Torrens fans that are envolved with SAAFl games could go. I love watching footy at the pug hole. Heard a Rumour that last week a old West Torrens legend was seen having a kick while assistant coach of shocs and is looking very fit. Aldo Floreani. 2 of his sons are playing with jon one of the favourites for the div 1 medal.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

My sentiments exactly Sojourner- a great SANFL venue that would be magnificent with upgraded lights for night footy in April, late August for the Eagles.
As for the game, I expect South to come out with all guns blazing after recent poor performances and the Eagles wouldn't want to take them lightly. Hopefully we will have Broadbent back but after the purile performance by the PAP, I fear he may play for them.
Passador must come in as we don't have a lead up forward at present but this is against Ronnie's policy of proving yourself in the reserves.

I know earlier this year and last year Passador played a couple of games in a row in the Reserves, but 8.2 is proof enough? ;) I understand what you mean, however. I liked Kenny at Full Forward this week gone, but he was only there because there was no Salter or Passador of course.

And as far as the game goes, South pushed Sturt a few weeks ago and we certainly didn't have convincing wins earlier in the season. In other words, never underestimate any side.

LifeFM will be broadcasting the game from 1.30pm

Things I am looking forward to
- Going back to Thebbe, home of a few Woodville wins and a Breakers Gridiron premiership in 1991.
- Ron Fullers 200th game as coach, great milestone
- South's first game at the venue since 1989 (South the last club to meet the WWT Eagles at Thebarton)

Eagles can secure a finals berth with a win PLUS a Sturt win over West AND a Central win over North

No offence to South but couldn't they have programmed a higher profile at Thebby?
Are the SANFL trying to wean us off more games at Thebby?

It could be the SAAFL not wanting SANFL games at Thebby, they are happy about training, it's just the games. The last underage trail, there was a SAAFL trail straight after.

Good point, it'll be a shame though, love Thebby, would rather go there than most current SANFL grounds. Great location, great surface, pubs and bowling clubs nearby. Perhaps North can move there! :D

I think Kenny has to return to the backlines. Several times on Saturday players were charging into the forward lines to look up and see Kenny anchored in the goal square, to be really successful up forward Kenny must lead regularly. I think its about time to move Hentschel up forward in case Passador breaks down again and Salter is retained by the power.

Daniels definitely will not be dropped by Fuller this week. Ron was gushing over Daniel's game against North and then his performance against Norwood. Ron gave him third best. Is another one of his "love child".

I don't think eagles supporters can work out how daniel keeps getting a game - he had 4 kicks and every one of them either put the team under pressure or went to the opposition. But everyone knows he is fullers lovechild so expect him to play the remainder of the season in the A's.

According to Champion Data stats, he also had 14 handballs for a total of 18 disposals. He also had 4 tackles so I would suggest Fuller rates him not so much for his disposal, more to the fact he is hard at it.

I think Daniel has been ok the last couple of games. Gets the most out of himself. Finds the ball well and has good hands, but IMO is too slow both in leg speed and thought process. Does he have a shut down job each week? That's something that should probably be looked at before being too critical.

Big test of the south adelaide football clubs character on saturday.
Eagles side on paper will be far too strong for us,but hopefully at the selection table those who select the team will pick the blokes who have done well on the training track during the bye and busted their guts! Start with a clean slate and a view to 2010! not a journey backwards in time!!
In simple words play those who have a future at league level next season and please do not pick those who do not!
