I hope you are correct Soapy, the last thing we need is to appoint our 4th coach in 2&1/2 years.

Wouldn't happen to be Tony Burgess, strife and sh!t follow that tool every where. I don't think he has ever been at a footy club and the club has been stable at the same time. Always doing his best to undermine the league coach to further his own aspirations. Just like he did to Simmons down the Bay.

Interesting to note that caveats South are putting on Clay for him to keep the job mentioned in today's Mail. Attending to club duties on a Monday and Tuesday and that there "are issues with his commitment" according to Brenton Honor. The admit to being "2/3rds of the way to re-appointing Clay" and want to assist him with time management.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Here's the article,

Clay must lift game: Panthers

Scott Walsh,

The Panthers have laid it on the line to Coach Clay Sampson demanding he lift his game to seal a new contract at seasons end. Despite claiming it is "two thirds" the way to re-appointing Sampson, South Adelaide Football Director Brenton Honor says he has left the former Crow in no doubt of what the bottom placed club expects for the rest of the season. "Its fair to say (Sampson's) commitment, there are concerns with, but we understand the pressures he's under." Honor said. "He's got another job and a young family, so there are reasons why his commitment perhaps isn't at the required level. "That's one of the areas we are trying to help him with. We're trying to give him some tools to use his time more efficiently."

Its also understood the club wants a minimum commitment from Sampson to attend club related duties on Mondays and Tuesday of each week in addition to training sessions. Sampson juggles coaching with work at a concreting business.

Rumours about Sampsons future with the Panthers began swirling on Friday with the coach out of contract this year. The innuendo followed the release of a letter to club members on Tuesday after a meeting between Sampson, chief executive Ben Kavenagh, Honor and football manager Neil Sharpe. The three page letter - signed by chairman Dave Flanagan, Kavenagh and Sampson - has raised doubts about the South Adelaide top job by outlining plans for a review of its coaching structure, including possible appointment of a director of coaching. It also handed down a five week deadline for Sampson to deliver "a number of confidential KPI's... by mid September". "The board and indeed the playing group, are united in their desire for Clay to continue to lead our club" the letter said.

Very professional of Honor to air the club's concerns through the media

If they want Clay at the club 40 hours a week, make the job full time.

I wonder if the FOC have meet their KPIs the past few years...

That article is a disgrace.
None of that should be made public and puts Sampson in a supremely difficult position.

Now everything that happens will be aired in the media, here and everyewhere and will be speculated on as to how it impacts on his chances to retain the job.

That is an untenable position and if it were me, I would tell them to shove their job and go find a new coach (if they can get one who wouldf be remotely interested) and who is happy to be put on notice in such a public manner.

If they do give him the flick, who is going to want the job after they treat blokes in this way?

And if they want more time out of him, then yeah pay him accordingly, so he doesn't have to consider how it affects his livelihood.

Whether that is true or not Burgess isn't the one who should be telling him that because he can't coach himself.

I agree with you Chambo.

The South Adelaide Board should get rid of Honor for making those types of comments public. The problem I see is this, Honor has made Sampson's position untenable. To questions someone's commitment????? Disgrace.

Honor needs to work out if he wants to be a Board director or a two bit media whore who gets satisfaction from seeing his own name printed in the paper.... Look forward to his next insight into the SANFL competition!!!!!!

Management and Board of South Adelaide.... have a good look at yourself.
