Under 15 Grand Final

Postby Wedgie » Fri Aug 07, 2009 5:55 pm

North v West at Aami Stadium tomorrow.

Just heard a rumour on 5AA that a young West lad who has been playing and training with them all year has found out he's 100 metres out of their zone and actually in Glenelg's zone. Glenelg and North both gave approval for the young lad to play the game, the young lad said now that the anomoly had been found he was willing to go to Glenelg last year. BUT the SANFL had said he can't play. Surely not? I know rules are rules but common sense. Surely if they were that much of a stickler for the rules they'd deem West ineligible for playing him in other games?
Crazy if true.

Then imagne if you lived 10 metres west of Prospect Rd and played for North and then finding out you were in Woodville's zone when the zone was drawn up when Woodville joined the comp.

Umm, Im not with you, what's the difference between living on the North/Eagles border and living on the West/Glenelg border? :?

When Woodville (not WWT) joined the comp, the zone for Woodville ended at Prospect Road didn't it. And this u15 player is 100 metres outside the zone for the club he's playing for isn't he. I'm just comparing the two with an example. What if you and your son lived 10 metres west of Prospect Rd and playing for North (you'll be happy about that) and then found out that he was playing for the wrong club and should have been with Woodville all along.

Still not with you, I'd be like the Westies kid and his family and the 3 clubs are in wanting him to play for the club he's played and trained with all year.
It doesn't matter if its Woodville/North, Glenelg/West or Central/Port, its completely irrelevent.
The thing that does matter is surely some common sense should be used, the team or area he lives in is irrelevent. :?

Back to the subject, the common sense solution would be allowing the kid in question to finish the season with the team he started with then play for the correct club from the start of next year. Glenelg get the player they are supposed to have from their zone and the kids gets to enjoy a wow moment playing in a GF with team mates at AAMI.

A decision like this is the sort of thing that drives kids away from the sport.

Phil, west of Prospect Rd bordering Regency & Torrens is North is'nt it? We have a heap of kids there & I was sure it's North territory, if not your junior ranks will have a few new Fitzroy lads knocking on the door.

Have to shake your head, hells bells, the lad has obviously played all season and well done to both Glenelg and North for saying he could play, but then in comes the stupid red tape. Got to feel for the lad. Totally agree with you Phil H :D

Thanks Locky

Shiek I am not 100% sure re the new Western Boundary re Eagles & North. South of Regency Road it may be Churchill or Prospect Rd. I know that Fitzroy FC is in Eagles zone and with the boundary move Kilburn FC is now with the Eagles

Maybe Locky, North got some of the Eagles country zone.

Kilburn FC doesn't have a junior program

Which parts of the Eagles country zone did North get Phil? I actually thought it was the other way around and the Eagles got some of the NAFA, in particular Broughton-Mundoora and Crystral Brook?

OK ... FH

I went looking and found the Sunday Mail article re the boundary changes back in February.

It reads

NORTH ADELAIDE
Gains - Crystal Brook, Laura, Gladstone, Georgetown, Gulnare and Narridy from Woodville West Torrens
Losses - Area between Churchill and Main North Roads, Grand Junction and Regency Roads to Woodville West Torrens

Thanks Phil, so that would also include Southern Flinders FC. I know it is based on population, but these areas would have been traditionally North, so no complaints they have them back.

That's Kilburn, which went to Woodville when they formed & Blair Athol which I reckon was in Norths zone. East of Churchill rd with Regency & Torrens bordering is still North.
Yes indeedy The Roys are in The Eags zone & now have about a 50/50 split with players in The Eags & North zone compared to 80/20 Norths way 5 years ago.

Back on track & good luck to my kids team mates from Blackfriars playing tonight, unfortunately that means our 1st 18 will be in for a long day against St Iggys this arvo.
