For clarity, the dead Dumbo was the one with the ribs and the vultures whereas the one with skin still on was very much alive and got up and walked away shaking his head and tail about 15 minutes later.Lightning McQueen wrote:Sensational Sibe, the dead Dumbo would've been fascinating. Did you try any of the Sibe suaveness with any of the South African locals?
Are you in any of the shots?
Did you get to see anything eating on the half eaten Springbok or whatever it used to be?
I've heard that South African safari tours are the ultimate in world travel.

It seemed simpler to just give the link to the lot than load multiples to this site.

Apart from the obviously gory fresh Hyena kill [of a Kudu], and the old elephant carcase with the vultures, no animal was harmed in the taking of these shots!
The Hyenas only backed off a little way when we walked into the river bed about dawn, and there is a shot of one of them near the shots of the Kudu body.
The Rhino and Elephant are unharmed, just sedated for Veterinary check ups, and the Rhino to be relocated as his 28" horn made him a prime target for poachers near the Mozambique border.
Kudo is tasty, but our meal of Kudu Poike didn't come off that one - Hyena germs - ugh...
The two dark shots are first a lioness who crossed the road in front of us at night - just out of flash range, and second some Hyena cubs peering out of a concrete drain that ran under the main road. [I need a more powerful flash.]
The caged animals are at breeding or shipping centres.

That camera has 38 to 432mm [35mm equivalent] optical zoom plus 4x digital - although the loss of quality shows once you get into digital zoom.
Having rekindled my interest in photography, I've since bought the new improved version that zooms to 560mm optically, plus the 4x digital, offers 10 megapixels instead of 6, and uses higher capacity and faster memory cards - all in a compact camera. The purist in me sent me looking at full size dSLRs like the Nikon D90, Canon 50D and Pentax K7, but by the time you get to that level of zoom you are carrying a bulky pack, so I made the compromise and stuck with the moderately compact option!
