Not one much can say, the side that had a decent game plan which allows you to kick goals wins, the thing that impressed me with Sturt today is that they had 29 shots on goal and were not Chambers reliant, that in itself would impress the coach, As for North, who knows whats going on out there, again unimpressive especially after half time. One hopes that if anyone learnt a lesson today it was the North coach after his prematch interview with the ABC. Sturt way to good on the day and will figure big time in the finals

I thought this was a good and hard fought win by the Double Blues. The first half was a real arm wrestle really, both sides found it hard to get into the forward line in the first term and that was reflected on the score board with only 3 goals being scored. The second quarter was more free flowing, but neither side could assert themselves. Sturt seemed to threaten to move away, but North would hang in there and keep within 1-2 goals, as such Sturt led 6.5 to 5.4 at half time.

The winning quarter was the third. The Blues have had exceptionally good third terms in recent weeks and this was another one. The Blues were able to get on top and unlike the first half, where they allowed North to reply with goals almost immediately after any Sturt goal, this time they held their own and put 4 on the board while keeping the Roosters to a single goal. The put the margin out to something like 10.7 to 6.7 at three quarter time, a handy lead no doubt.

The final quarter saw Sturt take complete control for me. The first ten minutes or more saw Sturt pepper the goals, just couldn't put the majors through to the end the match as a contest, got out to maybe 29 points before North hit back with a couple of goals, but then Sturt came home hard with the last 3 to wrap up the match convincing winners. So from where I stood, I thought Sturt showed why its 3rd and North is 5th, a cut above and walked the walk on the field.

A good effort from Sturt... certainly shaping up well for another crack this September.

For North, I wouldn't completely give up hope. They're not a poor side, they're a decent side and can certainly play better, so there is definitely hope for them to knock out Torrens and maybe go on to surprise.

Least someone has confidence, our biggest loss for the year and didnt think Sturtn played to their potential. North are too bloody worried about stopping the opposition scoring to worry about scoring themselves. Be great to think that we could knock over the Eagles in the Elim final and go on and surprise, but IMHO we wont even get there

I haven't seen a hell of a lot of North, so will ultimately bow to the better judgement of those who have, however if Heals is trying to implement a game plan like the dogs have then I would most certainly just roll with the punches this season.

The dogs took a LONG time to get it just right. It is a game plan that requires a lot of hard work in both fitness and skill training and takes time to become good at consistently. Stick with it, because when they get it right the ride is a corker.

MMM maybe Smac but I remember reading on the NAFC site that our players were fitter than they have ever been, they have the defensive side down pat, but we have no decent forwards to kick a winning score, sit back and watch both ends of the ground with the game plan, all of a sudden you have player sprinting 50 to 70 metres to get back in position to mark, fair enough when Alleway is in the sde he doesnt go to far back but all the others do. Cant see North winning more than 1 game in the run home. Had great hopes today whilst lying down with the flu when i listened to the North coach say what we were going to see today, at the end of the day it didnt help me recover

smac, you are wasting your time trying to explain certain things to most North supporters. Some are "only happy when it rains".

Reminds me of the time I went over to Melb with a Carlton supporting mate and one of the games we went to was Carltong v Adelaide.

At the markets got talking to a couple of Crows supporters from Adelaide and when the revelation came around that my mate was a Carltong supporter but was born and bred in Adelaide, this woman called him a "f**ing idiot". Not sure about this mentality that you were supposed to drop whatever side you support just because a new one was formed.

Good to get a win over them. Whilst there was a fair bit of over use of the ball by Sturt the Roosters were worse. I've been reading on here for the last few weeks how bad their skills are and I saw first hand that they're pretty ordinary. Their movement out of the backlines was shocking...

Great to see Luke Crane back in top form. This is going to make a huge difference to the side if he can keep it up. Obviously Coad was brilliant in defence but I was (and am continually) impressed by Nick Wark. Can anyone tell me how old this guy is? He has to be one of the toughest defenders in the comp. He gives 100% every time he goes for the ball. Another 3 inches taller and I reckon he'd make it at AFL level.

The biggest question to come out of the day though - what the hell is going on with Chambo's hair (and Luke Crane's for that matter). They look like they've stepped off the set of an Austin Powers film...

Biggest question of the day for mine was why D. White was started in the backlines after what he did to us last tiime, esp. given the absence of Alleway and Gill.

We beat the zone/flood today for the first time this year against a team we hadn't beaten previously; albeit with the aid of some "criss-cross" play ourselves. Not always pretty but I'm glad we have a plan B now when the oppostion go so defensive. At times with Jarman, North's league team used to be a joy to watch with their attacking style. Thrings have gone "sideways" or dare I say "backwards" it seems. Still, North are a young side and if they learn to play attacking football they can be a force in the next few years.

Let's hope we can conquer the Bays zone in a few weeks, in a similar manner. I have a feeling their foot and hands skills will be a tad more precise...
