Very disappointing to see the young man dropped after three innings but they are happy to allow Hussey to perform poorly for 6 tests against the South Africans.

I really hope this is not the case.

Nothing against Watson but Hughes deserves more time in the side to prove himself.

I will be really disappointed with the selectors if they drop Hughes.

Australia opener Phil Hughes reportedly dropped for third Ashes Test

July 30, 2009
Young opener Phil Hughes has reportedly been dropped and replaced by Shane Watson in the Australian team for the third Ashes Test starting today (2000 EST).

The Australian says sources close to the team revealed 20-year-old Hughes will make way for the all-rounder after struggling in the first two Tests of the series.

Watson would not only take over at the top of the batting order but provide another fast bowling option as cover if paceman Mitchell Johnson's form slump continues.

Hmnnnn very good point raised by WYC
When you consider how long ago Scardy Cat made a 100 compared to Huss

To drop an opener for an allrounder is beyond comprehension
A middle order batter should be dropped

If this happens it's an absolute joke. Watto proved in his much discussed efforts at opening the batting for Queensland that he just simply doesn't have the game for it. Australia deserve to lose the Ashes if selection decisions like this are made. Perhaps taking a back up batsman on tour might have been a good idea but not to be.

Stuart Clark has to play if we want to win IMO.

Hauritz is a waste on this pitch and under these conditions, Clark for Hauritz.

I do not think we need a 5th bowler to win this match. If we can not bowl out this England side with Siddle, Johnson, Hilf and Clark then we do not deserve to win.

If the selectors insist on playing Watson or McDonald then i think North should make way. Horses for Courses.

Watson is 5hit, I can't believe this has happened....he will get injured bowling and won't be able to bat. Hussey will then have to open anyway!

It depends on the rain really. If they start on time it will be in the first session unless we bat in which case he's likely to get out before he even has a chance to hurt himself. That is of course if he doesn't fall down the stairs on his way onto the ground.

?
HUGHES dropped
HUSSEY opens
WATTO middle order
?

But if thats the case how can you open HUSS instead of HUGHES

In the end 12 cricketers will be playing for thier country and we must rally behind our boys
I cant wait for this Test
I would luv the following
MJ to take a bundle
HADDIN to smash another ton
WATTO to finish the game off

FOOTNOTE
If Hughes is dropped
Lets hark back to the last test
That f.........................................................................g STRAUSS catch
If the umpires referred that catch [or non catch] then the following occurs
STRAUSS does not cop the heat
HUGHES makes runs ?? keeps his spot
The UMPs do not cop the heat

Disappointed!!

I'm all for the Aussie "tradition" of throwing a younger fella in the team, let him get some runs, then get found out, go back to grade cricket, work hard, toughen up and come back with a strong technique and mentally tough (comma central there, sorry).

But for gods sake -this young fella is only a couple of tests away from twin centuries! He's made a 30 odd, plus a 60 odd in the tour match. What's he gonna be thinking? How well will he need to perform when he comes back to feel at all comfortable? Yes he's got deficiencies, but he's got talent too. The SAfricans bowled short at him and it hurt them.

And to replace him with Watson! An all rounder for an opener. Selectors get paid good money. How can they make a decision that good old Blind Freddy can see is just not an astute cricket decision. Even if the ploy miraculously works, I'll still call it a dumb decision, because it shouldn't bloody work!!!!!!

I haven't seen the team named yet though. I hope it's July Fools Day or something.

Note: the fact that I have a bet on in which I pay for a day on the piss and two rounds of golf at Royal Adelaide if Watto gets to 25 test matches has absolutely no bearing on my full on indignation. ;)

Rogers should be drafted into the team, he is over there playing county cricket and should of been picked in the squad to start with.
