Who's the real deal?
Two horse race? or is compass legitmate?
Going to look at a couple of teams in depth.

Victor
v strath (1-1) home side has won on both occasions, strath convincingly, victor only just.
v willunga (0-2) close loss early on at home, then smashed on the demons deck.
v compass (1-1) smashed compass at home early on, then beaten by short margin at compass.
v creeks (0-1) beaten easily by creeks at victor. this week will sort out where they are

form has tapered off of late, credible win against goolwa last week, but where are they at?

Compass
v victor (1-1) close win at home few wks back, but was a different story early on when the roos were flying.
v willunga (1-1) beat a depleted willunga at home in rd 11, after being smashed at willunga earlier.
v strath (0-1) 5 goal defeat at strath.
v creeks (1-1) credible win at langhornes early on when the creeks were finding their feet, different story last wk.

no match for a flying creeks side last week, are they the real deal?

But in all honesty the other thing is that the fans of the GSFL seem to be much more civil, no where near the abuse and language coming from the supporters of the SFL, which will obviously be more attractive to families.

Interesting point you bring up there about the behaviour of the crowd in the SFL.. at the trial match we played at an SFL ground earlier this year I heard worse language and abuse coming from the crowd than I've ever heard before.. and that was a trial match!! I'd hate to think what it would be like in the season proper. I'm not trying to start a slanging match with any SFL people who read this forum BTW, just stating the way it was.

This is also correct. I've been to games in both leagues .... sadly i do agree but i don't want to enter into a slanging match!. Generalising though there are a number of great people involved in SFL clubs just like GSFL, BUT like always it's the minority that cause the problems for the SFL. I'm sure that the officials of most SFL clubs would love to see the 'nob heads' in the outer gone! But in saying that the crowd in the SFL gave me great drive/inspiration to beat their team! and there was no better way to silence them than to stick it right up them!! hahaha

Mate ... if you look through the squads I would say the the Bulldogs have far exceeded all expectations this year. This may sound negative, but i think that they have 'overachieved' ... if you disect their list and compar to others in the league ... geez they've done ok. thy're young, very young. The only problem for young teams is inexperience.!! and that's what counts finals times. Against the creeks it was like watching boys play men ... and that's not being negative towards compass. what they have achieved I regard as being fantastic. Imagine what they could have done if they had the forwards that Victor and Goolwa had recruited!! Again this isn't a slag at Victor and Goolwa i'm just ttrying to show that the compass boys have done considerably well considering!

2009 GSFL Finals Venues

Grand Final: McLaren
Prelim Final: Myponga
2nd Semi: Yankalilla
1st Semi: Strathalbyn
Qualifying: Victor Harbor
Elimination: Langhorne Creek

Interesting to note that the decision was made at this week's GSFL meeting that the venues will remain the same regardless of if the A Grade is playing on their home ground.

who are the likely matchups for the finals?

compass too young,
victor - ??? have they played together long enough to withstand the pressure that an experienced willunga side who HAS played together for some time in finals?
same goes for the creeks.

Strath likely to get a home final in the 1st semi. Although their oval is flat and regular in shape, that will be a huge advantage. How good would it be to play a final on the home deck? They should be able to get the whole town there.

Is it just me or do Yank seem to get finals every year? 2nd semi is normally a showcase, but crowd numbers will be down that day. Long, long drive to watch a game of footy, especially with Creeks likely to have A's and B's playing that day. They have set them up for the biggest road trip in the comp.

probably very true p32,but perhaps this is coz the population closer to town is so much bigger.i mean most people involved in the gsfl say the reason for the higher standard of footy is coz there is so many more numbers available to metro sides,so id say the same reason in regards to crowd abuse.

I would also say it's because it's the Country, so you have country people (slightly slower, with two heads who marry the wives ;) ...kidding!) out there, not the downtown suburbs of some of the Southern leagues which sorry to say can be slightly feral. I'm not saying it's the majority of supporters, but the minority who tarnish the clubs.

P32 you seem to have a Cockle Diver Avatar and your team states Morphett Vale, I thought you were playing for Reynella!!!!

Just a SA Footy in house joke where I was named in the paper as being from Pt Noarlunga and then someone had listed my name as a player from Morphett Vale instead of one of the Bayly brothers.

Why do you care so much about BJ and his connection with Aldinga mate? No doubt as is was his Jnr club he would love to see them do allot better than they are but people do change mates and people they socialise with and that sometimes means they change footy clubs to play with mates.
He has been with Willunga for a very long time now and has been a big part in the clubs success over the past 6+ years, no doubt if he had stayed at Aldinga he wouldn't be half the footballer he is today and has now got a great relationship with the Willunga club and its people so why would he depart?? The only reason I could see why someone like him would leave Willunga is to look at maybe taking the next step and getting into the game as a player/coach.

hey teamwork(i hope all that strapping comes out of yor player payments)i was only askn mate has bj ever contemplated helpn out the side that first giv him an oppurtunity at club level for the first time.this could be wen he is done and dusted playn for the demons or wen ever.i know if i were him i wouldnt like to see my 1st club struggle the way the sharks have, especially now wen u can see legite ppl really busten there arses to get the club bak into a respectable side on and off the field.

Cyclops i think both sides have moved on, both myself and the Aldinga Football Club.

Time to let it go i reckon, worry about your old M/Vale boys playin elsewhere and let the sharks try and move forward, not live in the past.

Rather than asking me these things why not ask Sticks and Kurtzy why they arent headin back to Shark Park.

Ha Ha, taking strapping out of match payments. That means he'd have to PAY about $150 per week to play (including quaterzone injections).

  I pay them to play but I did require a bit didnt I! It keept slipping off but! Not playing deffinatly would have been the better option. Even the strapping couldn't help me after half time!!
