Clopsy settle down ol son. I dont think either statement LF made is incorrect. The GSFL is a very attractive proposition and if clubs have the money then let them pay it. I know of SFL players getting in excess of $500 so the GSFL is not alone there, i just hope the clubs paying that kind of money are getting value for it.

Smaller population base to draw players from Cyclops would not allow our comp to be as strong if there wasnt some incentive to attract players from other leagues to join clubs here in the GSFL. Not happy with that then spend the money to get ur Morphies boys back to Emu Park.

I think the standard without paid players in the GSFL or people from outside the towns would be poor due to the populations we have to draw from, but you ask players that come from other leagues and a large percentage of them love the spirit in which the game is played, the competiveness, the format of the draw, the facilities and the fact that club and league politics play a minor role. Its a comp where, over the years every club has tasted some success (eg every club this year will have a least one finals rep, with possibly 4 different GF winners). Not having a go at any other league (I never mentioned the SFL), but i was pointing out that I think that the GSFL would give the impression of being a good league to be involved in. As well as this you can have a heated match on field and have a beer off the field with almost any player from any other club in the comp (good work by the pongy boys at the grand on Sunday night!)

Moved up there when i was 18 for a few reasons but $$ wasnt one of them as i didnt get paid or recruited there. Infact I went up to Willunga of my choice and was lucky to get a game. Schoolmates were up there along with Adam Carnevale and Jared Kurtz who had moved from Aldinga also and I figured a change was needed. In hindsight it was a great decision for my football and life in general as the mates ive made at Willunga will last a lifetime!

I've been fortunate enough to be involved in both leagues. The comment about the netball is a 'massive' plus for the GSFL ... I can tell you that it's easier to get a player who has a young family involved in the GSFL rather than the SFL. IThe culture around the GSFL is a hell of a lot friendlier than the SFL. Yes dollars do play a part but I can tell you ... being at saturday night prezo's in the GSFL is much more enjoyable. Famililes and communites being involved. Hence y i think Willunga are trying to get a netball team in all grades. BJ correct me if this is wrong!!

TBB and limb sadly ;) the clearance date is past us so I look forward to finishing the year at Willunga. Enough about BJs past.

Ball Breaker your right. The Willunga club has not had the benefits of the family environment that the Football/Netball club culture of all of the other clubs in the GSFL and i believe we want in. The past 2-3 seasons our club has focussed heavily on the family side of things and you could mistake our club at 7 oclock on a Saturday night for a creche. Hopefully we can couple that with all of the netball families and with us having some teams in the GSFL Netball comp we are heading in the right direction.

Round 15 August 1st
Encounter Bay V Myponga/Sellicks. Tough one to pick so going with the home side
Yankalilla V Strathalbyn. Yank Oval hopefully holds up well again, Strath will be too slick for the tigers.
Willunga V Goolwa. Looking for a 4 quarter effort unlike last start.
Langhorne Ck V Victor Harbor. Match of the round and a big test for Victor if they can stand up to the powerful Hawks
McLaren V Mt Compass. Compass to bite back after a loss last week!

After playing in both leagues I must admitt it is great to have the girls around after the game... ;)
But in all honesty the other thing is that the fans of the GSFL seem to be much more civil, no where near the abuse and language coming from the supporters of the SFL, which will obviously be more attractive to families.
The only time i've ever been wrong...was when I thought I was wrong!!!

Interesting point you bring up there about the behaviour of the crowd in the SFL.. at the trial match we played at an SFL ground earlier this year I heard worse language and abuse coming from the crowd than I've ever heard before.. and that was a trial match!! I'd hate to think what it would be like in the season proper. I'm not trying to start a slanging match with any SFL people who read this forum BTW, just stating the way it was.

Good one Kappars, this should keep me entertained today.....

For me

Highlight
Goolwa's win at Strath in Rnd 2. 1st win at Strath since 1995

Big Wins
Goolwa v Strath (Rnd 2)
Goolwa v Compass (Rnd 3)
Compass v Creek (Rnd 5)
Creek v Willunga (Rnd 8 )
Bays v Goolwa (Rnd 9)
Compass v Willunga (Rnd 11)

Suprises
Strathalbyn - lost players in pre season, terrible start and now look to have secured double chance

Disappointment
Yankalilla - winless after making big in roads in 2008 (7-11)

Flag Favourite
Langhorne Creek - Are playing great footy at the right time, have beaten Willunga and have the experience of Moore, Norman, Feast, Follett, Sherwood who can take them all the way

Good response LF, agee with all.

I think in the Disappointment area its a toss up between Yank and Bays. Bays made finals last season and this year have well and truly dropped away and are a bottom 3 side now.
