R17 Sturt v Port Magpies @ House Brothers Oval

Postby MST » Mon Jul 20, 2009 10:27 am

Sturt turned in a patchy performance down at Noarlunga on the weekend but still got the two points whilst Port played some good footy only to go down by a kick at the Bay.

Sturt will likely be without their lead ruckman Angus Kurtze who sustained an ankle injury but could regain Brodie Martin & Tristan Gum.

I would suggest Johncock will be asked to share the duties Jimbob. Adam Davey is not ready for league footy. I think the added responsibility will be great for Jake and I also don't think the loss of Kurtze will be as greatly felt as when we were without a Coad or Johncock earlier in the year (Coady too could pinch hit in the ruck, even a Paddy Fittock). There have been a few occasions this year where the opposition ruckman has outplayed Angus in the taps and we have still won comfortably.

I think we can cover him adequately but hopefully it is not too serious as we wouldn't want to be going into finals games without two recognised big men.

I like Johncock pinch-hitting in ruck.
Did it against South when Angus went off and got taps.

Reckon we may need to share it a bit, when we need to give Bowen a rest.

I think going back a few weeks I remember seeing that Angus had taken more marks than any other ruckman in the league in 2009. I wouldn't underestimate his work around the ground, even if he is getting beaten in hit outs.

Johncock is useful rucking around the forward line, but after watching him at the centre ball ups in last years trial matches I wouldn't play him there. He's having too much positive influence at HF too.

Any chance that Maric will get dropped by the cows?

The head says Sturt comfortably but as I've stated a few times this year, Port have been around the mark with not too many real bad losses.

Case in point last week against the Bays ... the match was gone halfway through the last but the buggers backed themselves and with a bit of luck could have stolen the points.

If the Blues are slightly off their game then Port are capable of seizing the moment.

A blowout in this one would surprise me so hopefully a good tough match.

Would love to see the Maggies take the points but I think the Blues by maybe 2-3 goals.

Yeah Port are fast becming the Woodville of the 00s, you just can't help but feel sorry and pity for them and hope they pinch a win here or there but not againnt your own team.... :D
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Sturt to fire from the first bounce and to win by 25 points, Chambo with 5 goals.

Hope he does. We've made a banner for him passing 600 goals last week and I'd rather put it up at Unley then transport it to Prospect

Very strong team. I'll be disappointed if we don't win by at least 5-7 goals.
