i got 250 back in tax.... wow...
better than nothing

if you get your boss/company to take out extra from your pay packet & put it into tax you'll get a heap more back...i'll be getting just over $4,500 back   but about half of that knocks off the rest of the school fees for the year
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

The ATO are focussing on many trades, and have created benchmarking for the below trades to try and monitor businesses.

• Bricklaying
• Concreting
• Fencing
• Roofing
• Floor sanding
• Painting
• Taxis

The ATO claim that these benchmarks are a way to compare business practices and performances to the industry standard. However, it is obvious that the ATO have a second agenda. THe tax office have employed numerous auditors this tax season, and will use businesses that dont meet the industry benchmarks as examples and "randomly" select them for audit.

The benchmarks include sales turnover. This may affect many tradespeople who include all expenses in the books, but are completing many cash jobs. This will trigger an alarm at the ATO when the sales turnover result is poor, hence it is a good way for the ATO to try and reduce the huge cash market, which is a huge pisser for some.

I was a tax accountant last year (Council accountant now) so I will show you how last year you could earn $11,000 and get all your tax back, with zero deductions.

Tax on $11,000 = $750 (0-6000 is nil) (6000 - 11000 = 5000 x .15 = $750)

Low income rebate last year was $750, therefore no tax to pay.

Obviously any deductions will increase the amount and this years rebate may have increased, I haven't checked yet, will when I do my own!!

Earn 14k this year, pay no tax!! Pretty good really.

Wait for our nice tax rates and rebates to all get clawed back when Labour realise they have to fund all the $900 they have been handing out. We will lose more than the $900 we got, but only the cluey are on to this and everyone else will keep voting Labour which is what they wanted.

Question - I just (annoyingly) found some receipts etc that I didn't claim after recently completing my tax return. Am I able to claim them for next year instead?

no you can't but if they are fairly large receipts & you did want to claim them this year you can amend your tax return, to include them. the tax office will then send you a cheque for the extra refund.

And of course there are fees for relodging/amending a previous tax return ...been there done that ( but it was worth it , my previous accountant had lost me quite a deal of monet to the ATO which I luckily was able to get back.)

If electronically through a tax agent or accountant,
or if via 'E Tax' they say 14 days, but usually (all going well) you have it back in about 7.

Not sure of your situation,
But if centrelink is 'involved' it can take longer.
